We set up a fundraising website to benefit an organization (Soles4Souls)which has commited to sending 100,000 pairs of shoes as well as other needed supplies to the victims of the Haiti Erathquake.  A portion of the funds raised will also benefit our local Domestic Violence Center. View site »

I was driving and saw a man slip and fall on some ice while jogging. He went down hard and I could see his leg twisted as he fell and he was not getting up.  I turned around to see if he was OK. He said he heard a snapping sound in his ankle.  I gave him a ride home to get care from family.

There is a gentelman who rings thebell on the same corner in downtown for the Salvation Army each year.  Now matter how cold it is he will be out.  Anytime I went by the last two weeks and he was out, I stopped and gave him a donation.

We are hosting a Graduation Ceremony for the class we volunteer teach martial arts to at a local elementary school so the parents can see what the kids have been learning.  All the kids will receive a belt and certificate as thier reward for working hard.

My Wife and our Newfoundland Dog “Thunder” volunteer to ring the Salvation Army Bell every year at Christmas.

A couple in our area has a huge Christmas light show choreographed to music at their house which is dedicated to one of their 4 legged friends who passed away this year.  We gave a donation which they pass along to the Humane Society and an area volunteer firefighters group.

We hosted Soles4Souls representative Brian WIlliams of Think Kindness, visited 9 grade schools in the area, held a shoe drive in each school at our martial arts school, and at other area events and collected 2080 pairs of shoes which will be shpped to persons in need in the US and around the world. #647 My husband and I offered to play Santa and Mrs. Claus in the hospital on Christmas Day to make things a little un-sad for the people who cannot be with their families.

#519 I volunteer at a hosptial as a patient escort so I greet people and take them to their rooms. I take great pride in being as compassionate as possible. My job is important because I am the first impression of the hospital that people see. I can turn a scary time into a mangable and healing one.

#353 As a master teacher of the martial arts I can assure you that there is no technique, art, skill, style, or system that has more to do with self-defense than practicing compassion.  I am deeply moved by The Charter and pledge to promote it to all my students and peers for the remainder of my career.
