CHARTER FOR COMPASSION / WORLD

Community leaders interested in helping greater Toledo and northwest Ohio attain the designation of "Compassionate Community" are invited to a free reception at the Toledo Club, 235 14th St., Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The networking reception, organized by the MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio, will update leaders on progress made toward the Compassionate Community title and seek ideas on future steps. The global Compassionate Community program was established by Karen Armstrong, a British author and former nun who used a $100,000 TED Prize in 2008 to create a Charter for Compassion.

Seattle was the first to be designated a Compassionate City, followed by Louisville; Millbrae, Calif.; London, Ontario; Appleton, Wis.; Basalt, Colo.; Gaziantep, Turkey, and Lake County, California.

Toledo is one of 75 cities and regions worldwide that are applying.
