THE GOLDEN RULE
The words may be different, but the sentiment is the same:
April 5 is now officially Golden Rule Day, thanks in majority due to Ambassador Mussie Hailu of the United Religions Initiative.
Ambassador Mussie Hailu has been working tirelessly for years to promote the message of the Golden Rule -- and to emphasize its global nature. This year, he wrote the Charter with news of Golden Rule events in Africa:
Greetings of peace, light and blessing from Ethiopia. I just got back to Ethiopia from my peace mission in Burundi. I am so happy to inform you that I met with mayors of Bujumbura in Burundi and Juba in South Sudan. Both mayors proclaimed the Golden Rule Day and agree to join us in the work of Charter for Compassion and want to make compassionate city program. I have also support for the Golden Rule Day from President of Ethiopia, President of Burundi and Deputy Chairperson of African Union and others....We have a big event planned here in Ethiopia where 1300 people will take part. the Minister of Culture will be the guest of Honor. On this occasion we are going to appoint the Golden Rule Good Will Ambassador of the year and will also present the Golden Rule medal and trophy.
In other parts of the globe, The Arizona Interfaith Movement will be naming its yearly Goldren Rule nominees. Charter partners in Holland will be doing the same -- stay tuned for a surprise in the realm of The Golden Rule in the sports world.

School groups in Cananda and others will be reading Charter Ambassador Ilene Cooper's beautifully illustrated children's book which follows a boy and his grandfather through a multicultural world.
"What does it mean?" The boy wanted to know. "And why is it golden?"
"It means this: Treat peole the way you would like to be treated. It's golden because it's so valuable, and a way of living your life that's so simple it shines."
KAREN ARMSTONG ON THE GOLDEN RULE
But what's most important about Golden Rule Day is that its an opportunity to stop and think. Can I live a whole day by the Golden Rule? What difference did it make? Listen to Karen Armstong's call to action and talk back to us on Facebook.
