Religions for Peace
New York, NY
Religions for Peace is the world's largest and most representative multi-religious coalition advancing common action among religious communities for peace. The Religions for Peace Global Youth Network advance common action for disarmament toward shared security in a year-long disarmament campaign to be launched in November 2009.
The Youth will engage religious leaders and communities, international organizations, governments, national assemblies and parliaments, municipalities, media, and other members of civil society to reduce the threat of nuclear and conventional weapons as well as demand a reduction in military spending. They will do so through education, mobilization, and advocacy in a unique effort to unite for a common goal and unleash the socially transformative power of religion.
The campaign is rooted in the understanding that a safer world is one in which development, national security and respect for human rights are advanced simultaneously and in good faith. Eight hundred senior religious leaders from over one hundred countries at the Religions adopted this holistic notion of shared security for Peace VIII World Assembly in Kyoto, Japan in 2006. It recognizes the inherent vulnerability of all persons, their inter-relatedness and common obligation to protect and advance their dignity and care for their common earth.‹ previous partner next partner ›
