The Dynamic-Text team is a cohort of teachers, parents, college professors, and business professionals who recognize that the greatest barrier our students face in text comprehension is vocabulary. Our students do not have the word knowledge to successfully read the texts of school. Through our daily work with students in grades 6-12 we have developed a set of routines that provide students with explicit structures for interacting with their peers as they read — creating a comprehensible text reading experience. These routines are supported by the use of gloss lists, that is, academic vocabulary scaffolds specifically created for the text they are reading.
Dynamic-Text is a classroom-tested approach that supports academic vocabulary development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing with students in grades 6-12+. The instructional materials assist both skilled and striving readers in the development of word consciousness, comprehensible text reading, practice and application of text-based vocabulary, and study of word parts for independent vocabulary acquisition.
