Mission Be

Mission Be

Mission Be brings mindfulness to schools and organizations as an antidote to stress, violence, bullying and addiction. Mindfulness can be described as the practice of paying attention in the present moment, and doing it intentionally and with non-judgment.

Typical activities in our mindfulness programs include : interactive lessons on the science of mindfulness, guided breathing practices, role plays, affirmations, and mindful sitting, walking, eating, listening and speaking exercises.

Since launching in 2013, we have successfully implemented our mindful education curriculum in over 80 classrooms from Babylon, NY to Bali, Indonesia. We are thrilled at the cultural shift that has taken place in the schools that our student and teacher participants have reported.

Mindfulness Education Programs Descriptions

Our core program is delivered in 30 minute lessons once a week for 8 weeks. During this time, a Mission Be Mindful Educator enters into the classrooms and teaches the lessons to the children, while modeling and embodying mindfulness for the classroom teacher.

A Mission Be Art Project is conducted during week 9. The students paint their “Mindful Hero.” The mindful heroes art projects can then be displayed at the VA Veteran’s Hospital and distributed to the veterans.

During week 10, a interactive Mindful Day assembly is offered and the children come together to participate in a large group mindfulness practice. The group collectively practices a series of breathing exercises, guided visualizations, group affirmations, live music and movement.

Our Trauma Resiliency program was developed by mental health practitioners. It is held one hour a week for 8 weeks after school and aims to serve students who may benefit from resiliency training. This program includes both mindfulness and expressive arts based skill to build resilience to trauma.

This program is designed to teach students to be present, listen, release judgement and cultivate, empathy, non-judgement and compassion towards themselves and others. Eight weeks of 30-40 min lessons can be integrated during health or physical education to enhance social emotional learning.

With the generosity of volunteers at the Highground Hackers in the spring of 2014, Mission Be created a point of concept for the Mission Be Mindful Digital Application for the classroom. The mindful application will be designed to be a digital cartoon teacher in the classroom which will teach the children meditation on their phones and computers. With the creation of this project, Mission Be will be able offer a uniquely successful, scalable global model. It also allows for a sustainable business model for the organization.

Mission Be’s Digital Program is a scalable way to reach millions of children by bringing the teachings of mindfulness to the classroom and into their personal lives, by providing them with an accessible tool for self-regulation, happiness and heartfulness.
