Wherever schools exist a Compassion Education Summit can be held.  Here is how it started.
The inaugural Compassion Summit was held at the American Community School, Amman, Jordan, March 23-25, 2017. International Schools Group-Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and the American Community School-Amman, Jordan, spent several months ideating, planning, and visualizing an event that would, as envisioned, be the first of its kind. Not anticipating more than 30 students at first, the event expanded to invite eleven schools from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Jordan.
Inspired by Karen Armstrong's wish for a Charter for Compassion, the purpose of the Compassion Summit is to bring likeminded schools together to create, enhance, and promote greater levels of compassion within our school communities. Our goal is to create a coalition of schools committed to compassionate action. To quote from The Charter:
We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous, and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down...boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensable to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.

The Compassion Summit focuses on compassionate action. Design Thinking Principles are used to create school Action Plans to be implemented within the school community. The Compassion Summit strives to create a coherent system of compassionate action, connection, collaboration, and co-creation. During the Summit, you have already or will participate in a variety of sessions, which we hope will consolidate to inform your action plans.
I. Keynote Sessions
Keynote sessions serve as inspiration and core learnings for the Compassion Summit.
II. Connections Sessions
Connection's sessions allow us to connect with one another, interact, and come together as a system of Summit participants.
III. Community Connections
These sessions allow us to serve the community and deepen our empathy and passion for action.
IV. Workshops & Institutes
Workshops and Institutes allow us to deepen our learning in an area of interest and deepen our leadership skills in that area so that we can share our expertise within our school communities.
V. School Design Sprint
Compassionate Action lies at the heart of the Compassion Summit. The Design Sprint and Action Plan allow us to synthesize our learning and experiences from each component of the Summit so that we can lead for compassionate action through our design of an Action Plan.
VI. Gallery Walk & Showcase
Based on the principles and tenets of the Charter for Compassion, and under the auspices of the International Charter for Compassion, the idea of the Summit is to bring students together and give them a compassion-focused task.  If your community, school system or compassion initiative would like to talk about how we can implement a Compassion Education in your community please contact the Charter to begin the discussion.
