AFTER THE STORM
The sweltering day after police stormed peaceful protesters
on Lafayette Square in broad daylight and without warning,
the way the Blitzkrieg caught Europe off guard,
I watch a small bird bathing joyously in a rain puddle—
a reminder that even a storm brings blessings.
