Call for new course submissions for 2022
    The Education Institute is seeking applications for 2022 and 2023 for online courses relating primarily to two areas

    1. Climate Crisis and Environmental Concerns

    Topics might include, 
    • Climate change issues including weather change patterns, threatened food production issues, catastrophic events like flooding that threaten geographical areas, greenhouse gases, and the changing chemistry of the oceans
    • Air, water, soil, light and noise quality and concerns
    • Environmental impacts on animal, marine life and plant populations and human health and  the causes and impact of the loss of biodiversity
    • The impact on geographical location of communities and their inhabitants, and its effects on migration and refugee issues
    • Deforestation
    • Human practices that contribute to climate crisis and other environmental concerns--including carbon footprint, overuse of plastics, waste and junk dumping, medical waste issues, littering and landfills, and human sprawl
    • Agricultural concerns including genetic modification of food
    • Overpopulation and its effect on the planet, other species and resources
    • Mining and natural resource depletion
    • Nuclear issues

    We recommend that courses address not only basic knowledge of environmental issues, but also on the steps that citizens and communities can and have taken to combat climate problems. How can compassion for the environment become a tool for living in these troubled times? Courses should be designed to transmit basic knowledge in these areas, for participants with no former or minimal knowledge of the subjects.

    2. Diversity and Dialogue

    The Charter for Compassion embraces our human diversity and seeks to open channels of communication and understanding among diverse groups. We welcome course applications that:

    • Explore the uniqueness of each individual unique, and recognizing our individual differences, including the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.
    • Explore the basis of diversity including cultural differences, differences in occupations, abilities and skills, personality traits and values and attitudes, and how this impacts human behavior
    • Explore how diversity often results in a lack of understanding and communication and learning about creating a culture of dialogue in our homes, communities, workplaces, organizations and the world
    • Explore and teach methods, strategies and programs that emphasize bringing together peoples from diverse groups for the purpose of dialogue
