The purpose of this webinar is to share the development and validation of the Compassionate Cities Index with other cities interested in measuring the level of compassion present within their city’s borders. In order for a city to claim itself to be compassionate, it has to first make a commitment to become a compassionate city and second, provide the resources and services to its citizens that will allow them to flourish. It is also important for citizens to be willing to show compassion toward one another. “City government” compassionate actions coupled with “citizen” compassionate actions create a compassionate city. The webinar explains the Alkire-Foster Method and how it was used to develop the Compassionate Cities Index and explore the implication that the study has for cities who want to be deliberate in its actions to become compassionate.
