Celebrate Canada
There is a lot happening in Canada and we at the Charter wanted to step back, take a look at where we are with city initiatives, and see where we can be by the end of 2018. Every city in the illustration above is registered as a Compassionate Initiative. We know that some of these cities are more active than others, but we want to start making connections between all of the initiatives, and see how we can grow. We realize that Canadians are celebrating the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. As the Community Foundation has stated in its publicity:
It’s a chance to encourage all Canadians to contribute to their communities in a way that will foster a greater sense of belonging, support meaningful reconciliation and leave a lasting legacy now and for future generations.
There is another event that will be taking place in Toronto the first week of November 2018 and that is the Parliament of World Religions. If you've ever had a chance to visit a Parliament you know that the event is part wonder, reflection, celebration, entertainment and an opportunity to confront global issues from an interfaith perspective. Parliaments happen every 3-5 years and in a different part of the world each time. The last Parliament attracted over 10,000 people. The Charter is a sponsor to the Parliament and we will be offering a Charter track of workshops, seminars and special events. We hope that Canadians from all points of your expansive country will come to the Parliament and be a part of the Charter's tenth year anniversary.
How about we challenge ourselves? Can Canada come to the Parliament with 50, 100 or even 150 compassionate city initiatives started? We've been talking with a number of Canadian communities who are already considering the possibility of starting an initiative. When we search our database we find that we have Charter members from all provinces and close to 1000 members. We'll be celebrating compassionate cities and initiatives at the Parliament.
Would you join us for a Charter for Compassion webinar on June 13, 3 pm PT? The purpose of the call is to talk about how to start or renew a city initiative. We'll talk about joining Canadian cities with their sister or twin cities and how an initiative can create a timeline that includes creating a team, dialoguing about concerns, learning about putting together an action plan and interfacing with city, village or county government. Register here for the call. If you have specific questions prior to the call contact me directly.
