IMAN Research

Founded by writer Dina Zaman and her colleague, Nicholas Chan, IMAN is a boutique research outfit that studies how religion impacts studies how religion and perceptions impact multicultural societies using Malaysia as a prime example from the aspects of society, politics and policy, and how faith drives the politics and economics of the country. IMAN aims to provide reliable ground data and analysis to members of government, stakeholders and the public to inform policy making processes and to contribute to a healthy discourse of religion, perception and society.
IMAN’s objectives are to provide informed data to a young Malaysia on how religion is practiced and perceived, and secondly, strategy, intelligence and data to policy-makers and investors. Thirdly, inspired by the best in the world, and there is none if not little in the Muslim world, IMAN analyses public perception and information of religion and the reality of it in Malaysia/ASEAN: this is crucial in multi-religious societies where Muslims may be a small majority or minorities, for example. The lessons learned here can be used worldwide by all societies and to combat xenophobia. IMAN aims to also study religious movements around the region, from multiple aspects: for example, the philosophy and strains of Islam.
