Washington Plaza Apartments Residents Council
The original resident volunteer commodities group was formed in February of 2010 and the Residents Council was organized (with bylaws and election of resident members) in May, 2010. The current commodities program under the auspices of The Bread of Life Ministry adheres to USDA income and qualified applicant guidelines.
Washington Plaza Apartments is a HUD-subsidized, low income, multi-family housing complex in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The property is managed by M.T. Graham & Associates, Inc., headquartered in Little Rock, and governed by a nonprofit Board of Directors (TG-101, Inc.) which includes resident member representation.
The WPA Residents Council was a natural extension of the original resident volunteer support and establishment of an on-site commodities food bank, with management and Board support and the vitally valuable assistance of The Bread of Life Ministry of The First United Methodist Church of Springdale.
We were able to rescue and re-establish the commodities program, which previous management had discontinued, with the gracious guidance of Bread of Life. We have succeeded in growing the program from zero to today’s present service reach of 81 households (of the 128 total WPA apartment units) benefiting 111 individuals each month.
In October of 2012, we moved into our new Commodities Center, thanks to everyone who Volunteered their time, in helping with cleaning, painting, tiling the bathroom floor, fixing light and electrical fixtures, and moving our commodities from our old center to the new one.
