Early in my career in education, I happened upon Adlerian psychology. It offered pragmatic methods for understanding behavior and provided reasonable ways to work with children, families and colleagues. In graduate school I explored Alfred Adler’s work more and his belief that, as we moved to embrace democratic principles in a world coming out of the Victorian age, we needed a psychology that helped us in interacting with one another. Get your ticket to the global gala

The more we find ourselves working on the Gala the more we pinch ourselves so to speak, and realize what an exciting event it will be. We‚Äôve been featuring one of our Humanitarian Awardees in each newsletter. Today we would like to introduce you to Isabel Wilkerson. Isabel is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Humanities Medal, has become a leading figure in narrative nonfiction, an interpreter of the human condition, and an impassioned voice for demonstrating how history can help us understand ourselves, our country, and our current era of upheaval. If you haven‚Äôt read Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, the venerable U.K. bookseller, Waterstone‚Äôs calls it an ‚Äúexpansive, lyrical and stirring account of the unspoken system of divisions that govern our world.‚ÄĚ Please put it on your list of books to read and put getting a ticket to our Global Gala on your to do list as well. Visit our Gala pages on our website and purchase tickets ( for the event. Should the date, November 20th, not work for you--if you've bought a ticket we will send you the link to the broadcast and you'll be able to watch it at a time that suits you. Don't miss it!

Gender Equity and Reconciliation For Everyone

Can you imagine being part of a group who actually share their truth together - across the genders? A group of people who begin to re-invent our human future together‚ÄĒreplacing our legacy of¬† gender dysfunction with a new civilization of beloved community?

This carefully facilitated 7-week course creates a safe forum where we can awaken a deeper empathy and understanding and begin to discover practical pathways towards healing and transforming our relationships. Together we can begin to re-form relations between women and men, and people of all genders, without blame or shame, and move through the often unspoken, unconscious attitudes, fears and reactions around gender and sexuality, to reclaim the mutual harmony and reverence that is our birthright.

Join us for this interactive and experiential online course and embark upon a new form of spiritual healing and reconciliation work that builds trust and compassionate communication through a skillful combination of interactive activities, spiritual practice, and transformative group process. In partnership with
Gender Equity and Reconciliation International (GERI).

picture Ecological Civilization
From Emergency to Emergence

David Korten is not necessarily asking us to read any of his books for next month's Global Read though he considers his work, Change the Story, Change the Future to be appropriate. Instead, he is asking you to read his most recent essay, Ecological Civilization: From Emergency to Emergence. He is offering the essay free by clicking on the
PDF link here.

David introduces his essay in this way: "This is a personal white paper directed to those who seek a future that works for all of Earth’s people and other beings. It weaves together threads of ongoing conversations with global colleagues in which I am privileged to participate. These conversations build from a simple, self-evident insight that carries profound implications for all that we do and seek to be."

2i day interfaith compassion challenge

Across all wisdom traditions, compassion is a foundational pillar. All too often, we conflate compassion with sympathy and empathy, but in practice, it is a distinct, regenerative and unifying force that transforms us and all those it touches.

We invite you to join us for a 21-day compassion challenge, to explore different ways to bring this timeless virtue into our lives -- and to do it in concert with kindred spirits from around the globe.

Consider a volunteer opportunity with the Charter for Compassion! We are looking to grow much of what we are already doing and exploring new opportunities that match our mission. Let's see if we're a good fit! Please take our survey.

Go to our TAKE ACTION page to find a variety of ways in which to interact with the Charter and some of our key strategic partners. The Charter for Compassion is essentially a movement with many different players; individuals, compassionate cities, partner organizations and coalitions of other organizations all coming together as one network.

As a non-profit, the Charter relies on the generosity of its members and communities to continue to meet our mission of making compassion a clear, luminous, and dynamic force in our polarized world. Help us share our vision and work with your family, colleagues, neighbors, and organizations in which you are involved.  Host a Charter Salon with friends and family, at home, with your faith community, or colleagues from work. We have everything you need: invitations, links to films, brochures, PowerPoints if you prefer, and even talking points. Contact Us and we’ll get back to you, follow up with an e-mail, call or Zoom meeting. We rely on people who believe in our mission to help touch the lives of those in local communities and across the world.

The Charter for Compassion has a bold, audacious vision of co-creating a world that works for everyone. Please support the Charter with a monthly contribution that helps to build this global compassionate community - person by person, school by school, and city by city. Thank you!
