The world loves a good story. What could be better than the stories coming from children and youth from all parts of the world. Two members of Compassionate India, Anjali Sharma and Deepika Ahuja, sought to prove that stories can inspire and teach. Soon a new book, My Act of Heart, will present how children act with compassion, grace and courage when faced with what appear to be insurmountable challenges. Nearly five thousand miles away, in Australia, 50 narratives on compassion were launched by Dreaming Australia, a Continent of Compassion. This time the stories were told by adults.

The Charter for Compassion stories seem to be endless in 2021. Traveling the globe counter clockwise to Las Vegas, 1600 homeless people found shelter, along, what Mayor Carolyn Goodman calls “the corridor of hope.” Along the corridor the Compassionate Las Vegas team works with local police, food banks, shelters and with children in garden projects. This same project, Green Our Planet, is repeated across the country and reaches 160,000 students.

How does a small staff of five people and a dozen dedicated lead volunteers figure into the equation of accomplishment in our cities?  It is all about networking, connecting people from one city to another, one partner organization to another. We provide training, when necessary, offer courses on the science and responsibility of compassion, and when necessary--we take the reins to speak on behalf of the disenfranchised. Compassion isn’t soft and fluff; its strength is working to heal the world.

You receive this message because you already know that compassion in action manifests itself in acts of kindness to others. Would you continue to help us on our journey of transformation in 2022? We are proud to say that we are primarily a volunteer organization that upholds the tenet of the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” We have a great deal of work to do and we need you to join us by contributing, financially or through your talents.

Things can only get better, and with your help we'll keep moving forward!

With warm regards,

Marilyn Turkovich

humankind - a hopeful history

In this month's Global Read, international bestselling author Rutger Bregman provides new perspective on the past 200,000 years of human history, setting out to prove that we are hardwired for kindness, geared toward cooperation rather than competition, and more inclined to trust rather than distrust one another. In fact this instinct has a firm evolutionary basis going back to the beginning of Homo sapiens.

Go to our TAKE ACTION page to find a variety of ways in which to interact with the Charter and some of our key strategic partners. The Charter for Compassion is essentially a movement with many different players; individuals, compassionate cities, partner organizations and coalitions of other organizations all coming together as one network.

As a non-profit, the Charter relies on the generosity of its members and communities to continue to meet our mission of making compassion a clear, luminous, and dynamic force in our polarized world. Help us share our vision and work with your family, colleagues, neighbors, and organizations in which you are involved.  Host a Charter Salon with friends and family, at home, with your faith community, or colleagues from work. We have everything you need: invitations, links to films, brochures, PowerPoints if you prefer, and even talking points. Contact Us and we’ll get back to you, follow up with an e-mail, call or Zoom meeting. We rely on people who believe in our mission to help touch the lives of those in local communities and across the world.

The Charter for Compassion has a bold, audacious vision of co-creating a world that works for everyone. Please support the Charter with a monthly contribution that helps to build this global compassionate community - person by person, school by school, and city by city. Thank you!
