Hello friends and future friends of the Charter!

At this time I announce that the Charter for Compassion is involved in a very unique NFT, one that combines a digital art piece by artist Nayla and a real house in the mountains of Utah. A percentage of the sale would be donated to the Charter for Compassion which could become a game changer for organizational funding and as such for the compassion movement around the world!

CHARTER EDUCATION INSTITUTE COURSES, GLOBAL READ, AND EVENTS

How to become an Activist for our World

Introducing the Work that Reconnects

How do we live in our damaged world, without closing our eyes, or losing hope? How do we not only express our suffering to each other, but also our gratitude for the beauties of nature and our world? How can we open our eyes and heart, connect with others, human and non-human and see our world anew? And how can we move forward, and be active in protecting our planet, our home?

Don't miss this important course.

Starts January 31 Cost: $30

see no stranger

Next Month's Global Read: The future is dark. But is this the darkness of the tomb – or the darkness of the womb?

How do we labor for the world we want when the labor feels endless? Valarie Kaur – renowned Sikh activist, filmmaker, and civil rights lawyer – declares that revolutionary love is the call of our time, a radical, joyful practice that extends in three directions: to others, to our opponents, and to ourselves. It enjoins us to see no stranger but instead look at others and say: You are a part of me I do not yet know. Starting from that place of wonder, the world begins to change: It is a practice that can transform a relationship, a community, a culture, even a nation.

Martin Luther King (MLK) and Forty Days of Peace

During the past several years, the Charter for Compassion has participated in the program, 40 Days of Peace, celebrating the extraordinary grassroots, national and global challenges that MLK has charged us to follow. We are receiving partial funding from MLK Day of Service for this program.

Starting on January 11, and continuing through February 28, we are offering as a tribute to King's vision of a Beloved Community, a series of programs to commemorate his influence on the history and culture of our time. Visit the 40 Days of Peace Page and review the plays, podcasts, panels, individual presentations, meditative practices and playlists. Plan your own participation list and note presentation times. Upcoming events include:

January 19: Lessons for 40 Days of Peace
January 20:
Cracking the Codes
January 21: The Peace Lecture
January 23:
The Black Experience
January 24:
Songs of the Civil Rights Movement

The Charter for Compassion Social Justice Sector
invites you to the first film in the 2022 Film Series

Join Social Justice Sector Leaders Pattie Williams and Todd Porter on Thursday, January 20, 2022 to discuss Shakti Butler’s film, “Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity.” This film asks America to talk about the causes and consequences of systemic inequity. In addition, designed for dialogue, the film works to disentangle internal beliefs, attitudes and pre-judgments within. Building on the viewing through group discussion provides the opportunity to build skills to address the structural drivers of social and economic inequities.

View the film at your convenience by visiting
The World Trust web site. Then join one of the discussion sessions to expand your understanding through dialogue. Pattie Williams will host Option 1 via zoom 7:30 – 9:00 am PST on January 20. Option 2 for dialogue will take place from 5:00 – 6:30 pm PST on January 20. Links to join the dialogue session will follow via email when you register below.

Consider a volunteer opportunity with the Charter for Compassion! We are looking to grow much of what we are already doing and exploring new opportunities that match our mission. Let's see if we're a good fit! Please take our survey.

TAKE ACTION

Go to our TAKE ACTION page to find a variety of ways in which to interact with the Charter and some of our key strategic partners. The Charter for Compassion is essentially a movement with many different players; individuals, compassionate cities, partner organizations and coalitions of other organizations all coming together as one network.

As a non-profit, the Charter relies on the generosity of its members and communities to continue to meet our mission of making compassion a clear, luminous, and dynamic force in our polarized world. Help us share our vision and work with your family, colleagues, neighbors, and organizations in which you are involved.  Host a Charter Salon with friends and family, at home, with your faith community, or colleagues from work. We have everything you need: invitations, links to films, brochures, PowerPoints if you prefer, and even talking points.
Contact Us and we’ll get back to you, follow up with an e-mail, call or Zoom meeting. We rely on people who believe in our mission to help touch the lives of those in local communities and across the world.

PLEASE SUPPORT THE CHARTER

The Charter for Compassion has a bold, audacious vision of co-creating a world that works for everyone. Please support the Charter with a monthly contribution that helps to build this global compassionate community - person by person, school by school, and city by city. Thank you!
