When Karen Armstrong had the idea that we needed a Charter for Compassion to help guide our way forward into the 21st century, the TED organization asked the world to contribute their ideas about what should be in such a Charter. When we were a little more grounded in our ideas about helping to create compassionate communities, we asked people who were engaged in addressing the grave concerns of their cities what they needed. These two online requests resulted in a document and a process. Now it is time for another landmark adventure; the creation of a set of principles that speak to decent behavior. Would you please direct your thoughts towards this goal and send us your ideas? We'd like to publish them online and then arrive at a point where we do something with the information. I'm taking a risk, and offering up a few ideas: ...

Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons: Nuclear Prayer Day - Augusut 6

You are invited ‚Äď you, your group, your congregation, and your organization - to join with others around the world on August 6th to say a prayer about nuclear weapons.¬†
The threats of first use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine and the potential for capricious escalation stir us in the deepest parts of our souls, and inspire us to pray that this planet might be saved from the more than 13,000 warheads which are aimed and at the ready!

People of our group who have said this prayer include a former Secretary of State, George Shultz; a former Secretary of Defense, William Perry; a former Ambassador Thomas Graham; physicist Sidney Drell; international lawyer Jonathan Granoff; and several others. These are people who have devoted their lives to disarmament and the abolition of nuclear weapons. People of action ‚Äď and also people of prayer!

‚ÄėNurturing Hope‚Äô is an extensive five-book learning resource, written by Derick Wilson, Duncan Morrow, J. Jean Horstman and Dong Jin Kim, being published by the Corrymeela Press. It will be available in late Spring 2022 as an Open Source Resource.¬†

The ‚ÄėLearning Journey‚Äô is for those seeking to create spaces through which people who are divided can ‚Äúexperience the intimacy of our honest differences‚ÄĚ.

The ‚ÄėNurturing Hope‚Äô resource grows out of the experience of people in Northern Ireland, and the wider world, who chose to hope in times of darkness. Such people chose to find a way forward together
that included standing with those who had been scapegoated. It draws on decades of Corrymeela members’ experience and was developed with learning partners in South Korea and the USA.

You are now invited to join them on this journey. To find out more and register, please contact Ruth Logan at
