Dr. Burgis is President of the Human Values Center, a B corporation that exists to provide values-based workplace leadership development, training, assessment and evaluation for organizations and communities committed to bringing about the best humanity can be. She has a passion for building innovative, relevant professional development programs that bring about true personal transformation and meaningful sustainable culture transformation. Laura sees her purpose in life as that of catalyst for global higher consciousness formation to bring about social cohesion, thereby enabling human beings to realize their full potential and flourish within their organizations. It is her firm belief that education is the most salient issue of our time. It is the vehicle to foster improved work and life experiences for individuals and within organizations or communities.
Dr. Burgis spent more than 25 years in higher education. She held a 19 year tenure at Arizona State University, including an associate deanship with the W. P. Carey School of Business where she designed and was appointed the founding Program Director for the Pat Tillman Leadership Program. Additionally, Burgis was named a Lincoln Ethics Fellow for the Education Leadership & Policy Program. More recently, Dr. Burgis served as the founding Executive Vice President of Claremont Lincoln University. Her research and publications have focused on contemplative education and community building. She is currently researching a book on the case for compassionate leadership in order to build healthy and resilient communities.
In the community, Dr. Burgis serves as a trustee for Saybrook University. Additionally, she is an advisor for Mulmangcho School for N. Korean refugees in South Korea; and board member of Balthazar &Rose, a Los Angeles based international company which creates jobs for Syrian refugees seeking asylum in Tunisia, Europe and the United States. Laura is a newly appointed director of the Charter for Compassion, a global organization as well as movement, that is changing the world – for good.
