Workshop Description:

This place-based virtual workshop is intended to increase awareness of events that have defined and perpetuated systemic racism in the Pacific Northwest. We will create historical context through a "visit" to six locations, provide opportunities for participants to self-reflect and dialogue, and explore ideas on how to take action and make meaningful contributions to resist racism. Stops will include: Mukilteo, WA - Treaty of Point Elliott, Coos Bay, OR – Lynching, Minidoka, ID - Japanese Exclusion, Seattle, WA - Gang of Four, Pasco, WA - Police Brutality, Portland, OR – Gentrification. Sankofa Impact confronts our shared history of racism and resistance by bringing people together for place-based learning experiences.
