Free Charter Film Festival sponsored by Charter Partner, Films for the Planet: September 9 -24 Join in a global synchronized stream of the documentary ROOTED in PEACE for FREE on September 21, International Day of Peace. The stream is taking place during the films theatrical release with Landmark Theaters in over 50 U.S. cities on the same day. Watch five additional films that inspire personal and planetary peace through cross-cultural understanding. These films are great for individuals and communities wishing to move toward an increased global coherence that celebrates connectivity and unifies our hearts through peace and compassion. Karen Armstrong Awarded Honorary Doctorate at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Karen Armstrong (right to left), Manuela Kalsky from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Gerthe Lamers and Astrid Gravenbeek, Charter for Compassion in the Netherlands If there is one concept that defines the work of British author and religious scientist Karen Armstrong, founder of the Charter for Compassion-- it is compassion. She highlights this common core in a wide variety of religious traditions and has made an important contribution to the ongoing debate about the position different religions hold in society. Because her work and achievements closely embody the contribution that Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam aims to make to the dialogue between different religions and to the ideas about their role in society, Armstrong was awarded an honorary doctorate in Theology and Religious Studies at the opening of the academic year on Monday, 4 September, she was awarded the honorary title by supervising professor Manuela Kalsky, professor in the endowed Edward Schillebeeckx, chair for Theology and Society. |
