How to Stop Feeling Anxious

  1. Exercise – Exercise is one of the most important things you can do to combat stress and anxiety. Whether it’s yoga, workouts or running, exercise works much in the same way as meditation because it gives you the time to be along with your thoughts. However, exercise also has the added benefits of releasing endorphins into the brain, which improves your mood.
  2. Breathe – Yes, it may sound cliché but it really works. Stop for a moment, inhale through your nose, and exhale through your mouth. Deep breathing exercise can help activate your parasympathetic nervous system, which controls the relaxation response.
  3. Massage – A relaxing massage will help ease your body of tension and free your mind of the worries and stresses of the day. Long-term studies have shown that a consistent massage program can reduce diastolic and systolic blood pressure.
  4. Maintain a proper diet –Eating the right foods our bodies need will help stave off anxiety. Fruits, veggies, and foods with high omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce anxiety.
  5. Friends – Social support from friends and family can help you get through stressful times. Being part of a friend network gives you a sense of belonging and self-worth, which can help you in tough times.
  6. Sleep – Try to schedule a full seven to nine hours of snooze time can alleviate the symptoms of anxiety.
