The colors of
our flag run into a
purple heart
for Rachel Corrie. She did
not join the army
for economic
reasons but went, instead
to a village
of greenhouses.
The bulldozer turned her
into compost, I suppose
for what could
be planted after
the eradication
of flowers, vegetables,
homegrown, hand-
made
necessities. She knew how to be-
come indispensable.
A hard rain falls.
