Kseniya Simonova: The Great Patriotic War (Ukrainian)

The Ukranians refer to their portion of World War II as the Great Patriotic War. During the war one in every four of the population were killed, resulting in between 8-11 million deaths out of a population of 42 million.

Kseniya Simonova, a 24-year old artist from the Ukraine drew her own depiction of how ordinary people were affected by the Great Patriotic War. She created her drawings as part of the Ukraines Got Talent show. She brought tears to the audience.

Luckily Kseniya's work was captured on film as she recreated a series of stories on an illuminated sand table. It is difficult not to become involved and affected by watching her creations. Kseniya did win first prize.
