Natalia Lafourcade Named First "Music Ambassador for Peace" by the Nobel Peace Laureates Permanent Secretariat
Monterrey, Mexico – Acclaimed Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade has been appointed as the first-ever "Music Ambassador for Peace" by the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. This prestigious honor was announced during the 19th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, held in Monterrey, Mexico, in September 2024.
The appointment recognizes Lafourcade's profound ability to use music as a universal language to inspire hope, promote human rights, and advocate for peace and coexistence. In her new role, Lafourcade will serve as the spokesperson for the "I Commit to Peace" campaign, an initiative launched during the Summit to engage younger generations in building a more just and peaceful world.
“Music is a universal language that knows no borders or limits,” said Lafourcade during her acceptance speech. “It reflects our cultural diversity and promotes respect, visibility, and inspiration. Peace is our sacred right, and we are all interconnected as one human family.”
Charter for Compassion: A Partner in Compassionate Action
The Charter for Compassion also played a significant role in the Summit's success. Marilyn Turkovich, Executive Director of the Charter for Compassion, moderated the panel "Compassion in Action," featuring Nobel Laureates Kailash Satyarthi and Leymah Gbowee. This powerful discussion explored the practical applications of compassion in addressing global challenges and building sustainable peace.
The Charter's contributions extended to youth engagement. Anum Mulla, Youth Strategist for the Charter for Compassion, and Board of Trustee member Cesar Zamora helped facilitate dynamic youth panels, inspiring and amplifying the voices of the next generation of changemakers.
Strengthening Partnerships for Global Impact
A key highlight of the Summit was the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Charter for Compassion and the Permanent Secretariat of Nobel Peace Laureates. This agreement formalizes a collaborative commitment to future events and initiatives aimed at fostering compassion, peace, and justice worldwide.
"The partnership between the Charter for Compassion and the Permanent Secretariat of Nobel Peace Laureates signals a unified effort to address the most pressing global challenges through shared values and collaborative action," said Turkovich.
