Sangha

In Sanskrit, the word Sangha, means inseparable. On the last Saturday of every month, the Charter for Compassion offers a 90-minute practice of people coming together to be in a Circle, a Sangha. Our Sangha was initiated by Orla O’Sullivan, education director at Plum Village, the retreat center started by the Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hahn.

The main guides in 2024 are: Andy Spragg from The Sangha House, UK, and Merida McCarthy from Charter for Compassion.

Usually a Sangha focuses on six areas of togetherness.

  • Body. Being physically present in one place.

  • Mindfulness Trainings.

  • Sharing. Dharma discussion. Nonverbal action. Presence. (View, insight, understanding, wisdom)

  • Speech. Loving speech. Calm and gentle.

  • Material resources are shared equally.

  • Happy and joyful. Synthesis of all ideas.

Join our community of practice, 9 am Pacific Time. This is a monthly event, you will register once and we will send you a reminder a day before each session so you don't miss it! These sessions are not recorded, we are building a community that can gather monthly. You are welcome to join at any time!
