The Rise of the Far Right and the Attack on Democracy
Date: January 13th, 7pm-8pm PST
Workshop Description
A movement against democracy and human rights has grown in recent years. Fueled by unhinged conspiracy theories and racist fears of “white dispossession,” the movement marches relentlessly from the margins to the mainstream. The violent storming of the US Capitol in an attempt to overturn the election was not the end of this threat. Rather, it marked the beginning of a dangerous new phase of far-right efforts. Relying on the latest data from the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights’ research team, we will explore the latest trends and threats in the region and nationally, unpack the rhetoric and discuss new ways we can work together to defend democracy.
