Dates: January 26, 2023 @ 5:00pm PST
As we've surveyed the landscape of our communal life in the US, we see hope and fear, connection and isolation. How can we transcend the things that divide us and move forward together? We need skills!
Cultivating Compassion is designed to help us learn and practice the skills of connection. Drawing from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and history, we'll adopt a quarterly rhythm of two book discussions and a practice session where we take on a controversial issue to practice our developing skills. The book discussions will take place on the 4th Thursday of each month via zoom. For participants who wish, an in-person practice session will be available on a Saturday morning, with Thursday night zoom option available as well.
Worried about committing to 12 months? Try the first month and see how you find it. If you'd like to see the draft of the entire plan, it's available in this Google Sheet.
You're invited to spend 2023 growing compassion for yourself, your friends, and even those who today you might describe as enemies. We'll interrogate our emotions, reasoning, decision-making, and more as we work to join the infinite game of building peace.
