We are a nonprofit group dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities in Arkansas. More than 15% of Arkansans have some form of disability, and as our population ages these numbers will climb. The United States has made great strides in recent decades in addressing the needs of people with disabilities but there is much more left to do.
A small group of Fayetteville residents got together to discuss what we might do to educate the public about these needs, and advocate for improvements in making Fayetteville and other Arkansas communities more accessible. We decided to form the Disabilities Action Network of Arkansas as an organizing effort to bring together people with disabilities and their friends and families, to form a supportive network of concerned citizens. We believe that by coming together and speaking with one voice we will be able to make a difference, in breaking down the barriers that keep us from being the most compassionate and caring city and state that we can be.
Please join us! We will be hosting public informational meetings and other events. We encourage everyone to become involved. Whether you have a disability or not, chances are that you or a close family member will experience a disability at some point in your life. People with disabilities are among the last groups to have to stand up for their civil rights, and as a group they are the most vulnerable to abuse and neglect. They (we) need your help!
Please contact us at disabilities.action.network@gmail.com or by phone at 479-222-0167 for information on how you can be involved! And thank you for all you do!
