9/11 Unity Walk brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and faiths to learn to respect each other through a framework of experiential education, compassionate leadership and intentional service. Unity Walk seeks to create a world where we are united, rather than divided, by our many faiths.
In 2005, 9/11 Unity Walk started as a proactive response to 9/11 and religious intolerance in our world. The original idea was put forth by Embassy Row resident Kyle Poole, shaped with the help of Erik Schwarz, and brought to reality by Meg Clifford (Poole), Daniel Tutt, and volunteers from every house of worship along Embassy Row and many other faiths, the true founders of the Walk.
The first Walk Event, held in 2005, attracted over a thousand participants. The event was featured in the media worldwide including in an award winning Voice of America/Geo TV documentary shown in Pakistan to over 20 million viewers. From then on, it became an annual tradition.
The Walk has focused on a variety of themes: Gandhi, MLK, youth, service, and peace. Incorporated in 2008, as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, 9/11 Unity Walk has expanded beyond the Annual Walk Event to three program areas: experiential education, compassionate leadership, and intentional service. In addition to the Annual Walk Event, we sponsor educational, contemplative and networking events such as Interfaith Youth Action, Diverse Cuisines cooking workshops, interfaith concerts, community and young professional dialogues, and speaking engagements.

The first thing one thinks when coming here for the first time is “Why would anyone in their right mind put a restaurant way back here?” A question I have asked myself a time or two over the 13 years I have been at this out-of-the-way location. I will say this, however, no one ever just accidentally comes here. A customer has made the conscious decision to come here and is therefore a quality customer from the moment they walk in our door. It is often not convenient to buy local and shop at local businesses. We want to make that choice a good one for you, by offering you quality foods to eat in or take home or to the office, by offering cooking instruction, by catering your office or personal events, or by enabling you to buy local, sustainable ingredients to use in your own kitchen.
Our credo is from Wendall Berry, “How we eat, determines how the earth is used.” We attempt to make the earth a better place one kitchen at a time.
The world we live in is hectic and the pace of life can be crazy.....
Our minds too, are busy and it can feel like there is always something to do and somewhere else to go.
So how can we train our minds not only to cope in this environment, but to flourish? So our lives are noticed, enjoyed, treasured - lived fully and wholeheartedly?
There are practical and scientifically proven techniques that train our brains to work better. Enormous possibilities exist for healing, relief and joy, wherever we are at, when we learn the skills of compassionate mindfulness. We can rewire our brains, transforming our daily lives from ones of struggle to ones of hope and resilience, opening up powerful ways of connecting more with ourselves and others - and flourishing.
Kellie Edwards, the founder of a flourishing life, is a meditation teacher and psychologist. She facilitates group workshops and individual mindfulness coaching sessions, integrating mindfulness and self compassion practices with the psychology of flourishing. She is a signatory of the global Charter for Compassion, which aims to build a global compassion movement bringing the principles of the Charter for Compassion to life.

A Home For Everyone In DeKalb (Decatur, GA, USA)
A Home for Everyone in DeKalb: A Collaborative Initiative on Homelessness launched in August 2017.
It began as an exploratory series of meetings labeled as Decatur/DeKalb Homeless Services Acceleration, convened by two long-time homeless-serving professionals living in DeKalb County, Rob Johnson and Shelly Fine. Concerned that Decatur and DeKalb had an urgent need to engage the wider community to accelerate and expand basic services to people experiencing homelessness, a group of local community leaders were engaged to assess the current status of homeless services, identify noticeable gaps, and make plans.
After nine months of study and consultation, the still-ad-hoc-group expanded and re-branded itself as “A Home for Everyone in DeKalb: A Collaborative Initiative on Homelessness” and set the following purpose:
to educate, engage, and empower a wide group of organizations and individuals to help accelerate providing shelter to people experiencing homelessness in our county. While carefully collaborating with the DeKalb Continuum of Care Collaboration and other service providers, “A Home” will focus on the key area of limited housing and attempt to provide housing with the help of individuals, non-profits, and the broad interfaith community.
“A Home for Everyone” also launched a Winter Freeze/Cold Weather Shelter initiative. Beginning in early January 2019 and running through March 21st, “A Home” opened two cold weather shelters at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a little later, North Decatur Presbyterian Church. A Home developed a shelter manual, organized fundraising, supplied the shelter, recruited volunteers, and played the coordinating role that allowed the shelters to run efficiently.
Compassionate Atlanta generously offered to be the fiscal agent so that all monies donated to “A Home” could be tax-deductible.
In the first year, the two shelters served 70 individuals experiencing homelessness, including 18 women and 7 children, over 20 nights.
In November of 2019, “A Home” again opened a cold weather shelter at Decatur First United Methodist Church in downtown Decatur, serving 79 adults, including 31 women and ten children, over 26 nights with the help of 51 volunteers.
The next step for A Home was to focus on its original goal of filling the gap in permanent housing. With its extra funds, A Home planned to pay the first month rent, security and utility deposits for those who were living in hotels and were unable to save for these expenses. It aimed to do the same for those experiencing homelessness but in a less expensive rooming house situation.
As it turned out, a handful of people were housed but it became apparent that even with a little boost, many families did not have the money to afford apartments in DeKalb and those who were without a home were anxious about a shared situation.
With this information in mind, A Home has now embarked on a new campaign to find “Really Affordable Housing” (RAH) in DeKalb County for its residents. PleaseCLICK HEREfor an outline of this project and consider joining the mission to find homes for “everyone in DeKalb.”
Mission A Network for Grateful Living is a global organization offering online and community-based educational programs and practices which inspire and guide a commitment to grateful living, and catalyze the transformative power of personal and societal responsibility.
We hold grateful living as an engaged mindfulness practice, grounded in both wisdom and science, which supports our ability to see the wonder and opportunity in every moment, and motivates us to act boldly with love, generosity, and respect towards one another, ourselves, and the Earth.
Vision We believe that the fully realized expression of our core values and mission will bring forth our Vision, which is:
A peaceful, thriving, and sustainable world – held as sacred bynall.
Values Our Core Organizational Values guide every aspect of our work, and are expressed and advanced through the practice of Grateful Living, which:
* Reveals that everyone belongs and everyone is valued * Generates an experience of oneness and interconnectedness * Deepens love, compassion, and respect for all life * Cultivates a sense of sufficiency and abundance * Awakens kindness and generosity * Inspires the impulse to serve with humility * Contributes to the healing of body, mind, and spirit * Unleashes joy * Anchors hope and trust in life, especially in challenging times * Opens us to growth and opportunity * Offers pathways from conflict to peace * Is an engaged YES to a wholehearted life.
A W.I.S.H.: To promote sustainable development, efficient management of natural resources, and environmental protection through institutional strengthening, training workshops, fund-raising for environmental projects, and the facilitation of information exchanges between all levels of government, NGOs, private and state run companies, academia, and the general public, in order to foster democratic decision-making.
The goal of the organization is to ensure a sustainable quality of life for residents in Nepal, particularly, and across the region in South Asia. To reach this goal, Social Ecology Defense promotes conservation and preservation through voluntary and cooperative stewardship by individuals, communities, and economic enterprises.
The organization directs its efforts at all fronts – environmental quality, resource management, public health, economic and cultural development. Humans both benefit from the productivity of and pose the greatest threat to health and sustainability. The organization's belief is that only through awareness, understanding, and stewardship can natural resources be conserved and nurtured for the benefit of future generations. We believe that greater and more strategic participation in the democratic process is the key to environmental progress.
With a focus on integration and sustainability and a multi-track approach, we will work on projects pertaining to globalism, including politics and governance, hydropower and major development efforts of funding agencies, as a watchdog to specific carbon control projects. We will be particularly interested in green roofs, reforestation, cooperatives for the poor as micro credits, youths and development, health, water supply, sanitation, and irrigation, and product development.
We also concentrate on projects that could strengthen the bureaucracy and control corruption of the country by conducting workshops in conflict management and democracy, both in urban and rural areas.
The time has come, for us to join in the unity of the spirit. ~Dr. S. Radhakrishnan
The blog "ABabel" describes "The Synchronous Spiritual Breath" of our compassionate planet, of love, forgiveness, and care for the suffering of others.
Only we are capable of contributing to the lasting preservation of the wonder of life on earth, a miracle which so far has not been found beyond our corner of the universe. We are, all together, “on the deck of a cosmic ship”, in the biosphere of the lonely planet where everything is interwoven with many complex layers of air currents and exchanges in chains of food and materials. From snatches of ancestral wisdom, culture, tradition and science key achievements we form – in our minds and hearts – a map of the structure of the world within the compass of our minds, hopes and faith. Our consciousness grows about ourselves and of the evolution of Life in the universe. We become the consciousness of universe and get responsibility for the next evolutionary tier.
We value consciousness of the miracle of our existence more and more. We know of our unimaginable and infinitesimally smallness in the limitless sheer size of the cosmos, as well as knowing that we have a limited knowledge of the complex composition of nature’s secrets. Among us there arises a feeling of being an inhabitant and patriot of planet-Earth. Our globe becomes for us a sacred Earth as India is for Hindus and as the Holy Land is for those of the Abrahamic faiths. The Earth is a universal great temple for all in which there is room for all beliefs and traditions. It is at the same time for all a holy place: for some a pagoda or a house of retreat, for others it can be a cathedral, a synagogue, a protestant church, a mosque, a basilica or a zendo.

U.R.I.
The idea for URI came to California Episcopal Bishop William Swing in 1993, after an invitation by the United Nations to host a large interfaith service in San Francisco, marking the 50thanniversary of the signing of the U.N. Charter. He asked himself, “If the nations of the world are working together for peace through tUN, then where are the world’s religions?”
Through dozens of meetings with world religious leaders, he discovered a thread of competition, a focus on expanding individual denominations, and little institutional commitment to building bridges. But in those ate the grassroots of the world’s religions, he found a deep desire for cooperation and peace. From this inspiration, the vision for URI took shape: a supported network connecting people across religions and cultures in the service of peace and justice.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the United Religions Initiative is to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings.
VISION
URI envisions a world at peace, sustained by engaged and interconnected communities committed to respect for diversity, nonviolent resolution of conflict and social, political, economic and environmental justice.
MISSION
URI is a global grassroots interfaith network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world.
We implement our mission through local and global initiatives that build the capacity of our more than 600 member groups and organizations, called Cooperation Circles, to engage in community action such as conflict resolution and reconciliation, environmental sustainability, education, women’s and youth programs, and advocacy for human rights.
Cooperation Circles are unique to URI’s organizational design. Click here to learn more about URI’s charter, structure and history.

The Abraham Path is a route of walking and cultural tourism which follows the footsteps of Abraham / Ibrahim through the Middle East. The story of Abraham / Ibrahim’s journey records the origin of a spiritual tradition shared by more than three billion people in the world today. By retracing this journey, the Abraham Path provides a place of meeting and connection for people of all faiths and cultures, inviting us to remember our common origins, to respect our cultural differences, and to recognize our shared humanity.
The Path also serves as a catalyst for sustainable tourism and economic development; a platform for the energy and idealism of young people; and a focus for positive media highlighting the rich culture and hospitable people of the Middle East. Founded at Harvard University, the Abraham Path Initiative is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit organization supported by the UN Alliance of Civilizations program and the UN World Tourism Organization. During the past year the first sections of the Path have been opened in Turkey, Jordan, and Palestine. Already, more than 2000 people (including students and young people from all over the world) have been out walking the trail – making friends, learning about other cultures, and bringing real economic benefits to villages along the route. Over the same period the Abraham Path has reached a worldwide audience of millions with images of humanity and hope from the heart of the Middle East, and has built a network of partners which includes local communities, governments, businesses, universities, schools, and NGOs in the region and around the world.
We foster mutual understanding and appreciation for the faith perspectives of the Abrahamic traditions.
Mission Statement
Foster mutual understanding and appreciation among Abrahamic faith traditions through education, dialogue and action.
As the world becomes more interdependent, it is critical that people of good will come together. Knowing each other and understanding the foundations of each tradition will help dispel false images and stereotypes that thwart positive relationships and generate conflict. Healthy and constructive relationships will emerge from mutual understanding and appreciation of each tradition.
Vision
Contribute to peace in our community and beyond.
Communicate, Learn, Respect
Communicate — Provide a safe and engaging environment for communication. Learn — Provide opportunity to learn about the Abrahamic faith traditions. Respect — Foster mutual respect and consideration among all.

Action Disabilities Network (Fayetteville, AR, USA)
We are a nonprofit group dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities in Arkansas. More than 15% of Arkansans have some form of disability, and as our population ages these numbers will climb. The United States has made great strides in recent decades in addressing the needs of people with disabilities but there is much more left to do.
A small group of Fayetteville residents got together to discuss what we might do to educate the public about these needs, and advocate for improvements in making Fayetteville and other Arkansas communities more accessible. We decided to form the Disabilities Action Network of Arkansas as an organizing effort to bring together people with disabilities and their friends and families, to form a supportive network of concerned citizens. We believe that by coming together and speaking with one voice we will be able to make a difference, in breaking down the barriers that keep us from being the most compassionate and caring city and state that we can be.
Please join us! We will be hosting public informational meetings and other events. We encourage everyone to become involved. Whether you have a disability or not, chances are that you or a close family member will experience a disability at some point in your life. People with disabilities are among the last groups to have to stand up for their civil rights, and as a group they are the most vulnerable to abuse and neglect. They (we) need your help!
Please contact us at disabilities.action.network@gmail.com or by phone at 479-222-0167 for information on how you can be involved! And thank you for all you do!
This is part of a development, sharing, loving, learning community of conscious beings from around the worldwide.

I embraced mindfulness 15 years ago when dealing with difficulties in my personal life. Since then I have seen the benefits this approach can have within counselling and group programs. My background in nursing and counselling led to my particular interest in working with those facing the emotional challenges associated with cancer and chronic health issues. I am now exploring how Mindfulness can be taught in different settings, adapting to the needs of particular groups or the individual.

African Child In Need (ACIN) is an NGO that strives for long term sustainable health and education, child support, prevention and protection of child abuse and neglect through the strengthening implementation of activities in the areas of advocacy and service delivery, working with vulnerable children and communities for sustained impact dedicated to the reduction and elimination of poverty in the lives of vulnerable children.
ACIN is dedicated to ensuring that every child has the best chance for success. Our programmes give children a healthy start, the opportunity to learn, and protection from harm.
As caregivers of children, we inspire and achieve lasting impact for most vulnerable girls and boys. By transforming childrens' lives now, we change the course of their future and more so for girls that are more likely to marry young, have children early and spend their life in poverty. We give girls the opportunity to receive education to improve their own lives and those of their families, helping to break the cycle of poverty by addressing the barriers and keep girls and boys in school.
African Child In Need (ACIN) runs programmes to provide the best practice social integration of children, youth and families, protect from risks and abuse, support children go to school, help young people to find gainful employment and families to be able to support and love their own children. In order to achieve this, ACIN has developed a holistic social integration cycle of projects that are implemented directly.
Our Vision
We are passionately concerned for destitute children and want to transform places of darkness into places of light and hope. We advocate for improved quality of life and preservation of the dignity of young persons.
Our Mission
To stand as advocates for vulnerable children, to release them from the bondage of poverty and enhance their academic status, to give health care, expose them socially and help them exploit their talents and gifts so that they become positive change agents in the community.

Home for Street Children

African Child Academy
It is long term sustainable education and child support, through strengthening implementations activities in areas of advocacy and service delivery, working with children and communities for sustainable impact, dedicated to reduce suffering and elimination of poverty.
Life on the street
Life on the streets usually means a life of invisibility. Street children are often shunned, ignored and excluded. Living on the streets means sleeping in gutters, eat out of the garbage and become dirty and sick.
Children living without family structure lack positive role models and are at greater risks of feeling powerless and disaffected to crime.
Life on streets usually means a life of invisibility especially so street children are often shunned, ignored and excluded in the society.
Street children are not pleasant to look at: living on the streets means being dirty, naked, and ill. One on the streets becomes vulnerable to all forms of exploitation, abuse and their daily lives are likely to be removed from the ideal childhood.
Education is often the first causality for an orphan. Children do not go to school because domestic burdens upon them become too great. They also become exposed to exclusion from other services including vital information about health, nutrition, and life skills.
Pushing Factors
Child Poverty in form of hunger and lack of opportunities. Poverty of education and relevant training. Parental abuse and beatings. Child abuse and neglect, sexual assault, intimate partner or family violence, and exposure to community violence. Broken families.
Activities
To reduce stigma, to ensure that there is shared understanding about the stigma of street children and to address it and deal with different forms of stigmatization: Isolation, Victimization, Discrimination and Rejection

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Tulsa Chapter (Tulsa, OK, USA)
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, fast growing international revival movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spans over 190 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1921, is the first American-Muslim organization. Its journal, The Muslim Sunrise, is among the earliest and longest running American-Muslim periodicals.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmadas claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesusas of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammadsa. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes that God sent Ahmadas, like Jesusas, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’sas advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival. He divested Islam of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings. He also recognized the noble teachings of the great religious founders and saints, including Zoroasteras, Abrahamas, Mosesas, Jesusas, Krishnaas, Buddhaas, Confuciusas, Lao Tzu and Guru Nanak, and explained how such teachings converged into the one true Islam.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the leading Islamic organization to categorically reject terrorism in any form. Over a century ago, Ahmadas emphatically declared that an aggressive “jihad by the sword” has no place in Islam. In its place, he taught his followers to wage a bloodless, intellectual “jihad of the pen” to defend Islam. To this end, Ahmadas penned over 80 books and tens of thousands of letters, delivered hundreds of lectures, and engaged in scores of public debates. His rigorous and rational defenses of Islam unsettled conventional Muslim thinking. As part of its effort to revive Islam, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community continues to spread Ahmad’sas teachings of moderation and restraint in the face of bitter opposition from the Muslim world.
Similarly, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to endorse a separation of mosque and state. Over a century ago, Ahmadas taught his followers to protect the sanctity of both religion and government by becoming righteous souls as well as loyal citizens. He cautioned against irrational interpretations of Quranic pronouncements and misapplications of Islamic law. He continually voiced his concerns over protecting the rights of God’s creatures. Today, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community continues to be an advocate for universal human rights and protections for religious and other minorities. It champions the empowerment and education of women. Its members are among the most law-abiding, educated, and engaged Muslims in the world.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the foremost Islamic organization with a central spiritual leader. Over a century ago, Ahmadas reminded his followers of God’s promise to safeguard the message of Islam through khilafat (the spiritual institution of successorship to prophethood). The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes that only spiritual successorship can uphold the true values of Islam and unite humanity. Five spiritual leaders have succeeded Ahmadas since his demise in 1908. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s fifth and current spiritual head, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, resides in the United Kingdom. Under the leadership of its spiritual successors, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has now built over 15,000 mosques, over 500 schools, and over 30 hospitals. It has translated the Holy Quran into over 60 languages. It propagates the true teachings of Islam and the message of peace and tolerance through a twenty-four hour satellite television channel (MTA), the Internet (alislam.org) and print (Islam International Publications). It has been at the forefront of disaster relief in the United States and worldwide through an independent charitable organization, Humanity First.

Align-Ed (Edevale, South Africa)
At Align-Ed, we specialise in creating context for our clients through focusing on strategic thinking and the development of brands and culture that is aligned with this thinking. These three aspects form the core of any organisation. Through facilitated processes we partner with our clients to support the creation, activation, development and sustainability of this core.
The Align-Ed offering has been inspired from the work done by James Collins and Jerry Porras in their book “Built to Last” (Williams Collins. 2004). At Align-Ed we specialise in assisting our clients to preserve their core and stimulate progress. The development, ring fencing, and protection of the core, focuses on identity – who they are, on function – what they do and on purpose– why they do what they do. This principle applies equally to individuals, as it does to brands and organisation.
Further, the work done by Joseph Pine and James Gilmore in The Experience Economy (Harvard Business Review Press. 1999) has provided the means to develop and manifest that core through their analogy of work being theatre. Align-Ed supports our clients in creating experiences and memories for customers and stakeholders that are aligned to their core. The Experience Economy facilitates heartfelt and emotional connections with businesses, brands and people.
We facilitate alignment of strategies that address amongst others:
• Business • Sustainability (Green) • Service • Diversity • Knowledge Management • Youth Development • Wellness for individuals and organisations • Entrepreneurial and Enterprise Development

Ambassadors of Worldwide Brotherhood (Tilburg, Netherlands)
The intention of the Worldwide Brotherhood is to bring together young people in an international context. The ambassadors of the Worldwide Brotherhood are young people who, out of their own culture, are committed to a worldwide movement of compassion and brotherhood.
Compassion and brotherhood constitute the keywords in the spirituality of the Brothers CMM. In their basic program, the starting point is ‘Jesus, the Compassionate, our Brother’. The congregation undertakes education and equipment of these young people, to make them an ambassador of a Worldwide Brotherhood.
The World Youth Days, which take place every three years in a different city, turn out to be an excellent opportunity to bring young people in contact with the World Church and with the Gospels.
For the ambassadors of the Worldwide Brotherhood, these World Youth Days are not the ultimatum, but a stepping stone to achieve and expand their worldwide movement.
Beside the preparatory, the continuation after the World Youth Days is just as important. Mutual contact and continued deepening are to be strengthened, involving a close relationship with the congregation, which provides the guidance that is necessary and possible.

Based out of New York City, Anchorlot's sound is a collaboration of early 90s alternative rock and modern rock with funk and blues undertones. Our music captures themes from social injustice and political exploits to individual empowerment and discovery that affect individuals across the globe.
The band name was inspired by John's travels in Cambodia in 2011 where he visited Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world which was built in the 12th century. John's travels in Cambodia and Southeast Asia were eye-opening and demonstrated the beauty that exists in this world in spite of intense poverty and conditions that many Westerners are never exposed to. The experience completely shifted John's understanding of the way in which we are all connected and how Western values, particularly American values, are largely skewed by materialism, fame, and aspirations that offer little to no fulfillment. It is our experiences that transform us, especially those that force us outside of our comfort zones.
‘Anchor’ represents the anchors of our societies, the unsung heroes who receive minimal recognition; a small ‘lot’ of appreciation. It is a tribute to the regular and wonderful people all around the world who are collectively ignored while those with influence and power who largely promote vanity, materialism, greed, and corruption are glorified.
View Anchorlot's re-imagined version of "Hallelujah" below. The concept for this project began with an informal conversation that quickly became a call to capture and expose some major deep-seated issues that inhibit our ability to see our own common humanity. The lyrics address some important themes that are incredibly relevant right now; our intense political and social divide, the injustices of our incarceration system, police brutality, the war in the Middle East, the refugee crisis, and the hypocrisy of Christianity and organized religion. This song was originally composed and recorded by Leonard Cohen.
"We, the people of the Anew United Church of Christ of Mitchell, South Dakota, hereby declare ourselves an Open and Affirming Christian community. We welcome into full membership persons of every race, ethnic background, age, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, socio-economic circumstance, and faith background. We welcome all to full participation in all of our sacraments and every aspect of our congregational life, leadership, ministry, worship, responsibilities, and all the blessings of fellowship in our congregation."
Anew United Church of Christ was formed in 2012 by a group of people who wanted to do “church” in a new way.
Church politics, fundamentalism and exclusionary beliefs have chased many would-be Christians out of churches, creating a large class of people that Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong has labeled “believers in exile.” These people are rooted in Christian traditions but no longer feel they can belong to churches where every word of the Bible is taken as literal history, gay and other marginalized people are treated as second-class citizens, belief in a set of ancient creeds is asserted as the only way to Heaven, and the primary goal of faith seems to be self-help.
We at Anew UCC wish to reclaim a brand of Christianity that flourished in the early decades after Jesus’ death. For many followers of “The Way,” being a Christian was a call to action. It was a commitment to work for the reign of God on earth — a reign of love, equality and justice that was best embodied by the life and ministry of Jesus.
At Anew, you will not experience “church” in the typical way. For starters, we don’t even have a church building. We currently meet in a large room at LifeQuest, a nonprofit organization that assists people with developmental disabilities.
You also won’t experience any alter calls or high-pressure conversion attempts. It’s our aim to accept everyone as they are, and to welcome their questions and doubts.
It’s also our aim to put our faith in Jesus’ message into action. Instead of maintaining a building, an endowment fund and a cumbersome structure of church committees, we wish to expend our energy doing the work we feel called to do.
So, please feel welcome to join us. Come as you are to worship, stay for fellowship, get involved in an adult study, enroll your kids in Sunday school. And then join us as we try to follow the example of Jesus in our lives, our community and our world.

Art in the Image is a ministry of visual art for worship, spiritual development & pastoral care. To create is to act in the image of God and invite God in.
Art Minister and Created to Create program director, Rev. Darci Jaret has led groups in communal art making for worship, pastoral care, or spiritual development in multiple faith communities, small groups, a children’s home, national Christian conferences, retreats, and more. Through her vocation as an art minister, Darci leads not only the congregation she serves, but thousands of others to experience God through art.
Our creative God has given us all the ability to create and speak God’s truth if we open ourselves up to our inner artist. Many people have cut themselves off from this aspect of creative energy of the spirit. Darci developed a Pastoral Care Model that facilitates creative narrative expression and helps people take the first steps toward discovering their own language of creativity.

We are egalitarian and our decisions are made through general consensus.
We are dedicated towards serving our local community.
Take a setting provided by nature, offering the essence of spirituality in environment. Erect here an architecture to evoke the concept of engaging religious faith in conversation with the world. To this place gather, in lively encounter, leaders of religious thought to redefine spiritual values, to question, to seek relevant answers in a troubled world. Here create a national-global ecumenical center for seminars and dialogues on theological concerns of contemporary society. It is a testament to remind people in Aspen that there is foremost a spiritual dimension to our existence. It is a center for retreats, for meditation, for special worship services open to all, for musical presentations, for exhibits of art and literature and any other efforts to seek paths leading to brotherhood and peace. This is the Aspen Chapel.
These are the words printed on the program for the Chapel’s groundbreaking ceremony on June 8, 1968 where representatives of Protestant, Catholic and Jewish faiths were present along with the governor of Colorado. This vision is in effect today. The Chapel provides weekly services of Christian worship and Jewish Shabbat. Religious education for youth is on-going and spiritual seminars for adults are frequent. The Chapel features music concerts and art openings regularly. The ministry of marriage, baptism, memorial and counseling are constant features of the Chapel’s life. Personal connections are made daily. The Chapel is governed by a Board of Trustees, a Christian Administrative Board, and a Jewish Board of Directors. It also functions with various permanent and temporary committees and teams.
The Chapel ministers to a broad community of residents, second homeowners, and visitors throughout Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. Many of our constituents understand themselves as people of faith, but have moved beyond traditional religious institutionalism and exclusivity. The Chapel community welcomes all seeking and following a divinely oriented spiritual path. The Chapel also fosters a core group of people regularly involved in worship, education, service and community. They see the Chapel Community to which they belong as an expression of that global community into which we are all born as members of the human race, and chose to see a spiritual dimension to all of life. Here is the Church into which the Cosmic Christ bids us to be born again.
As an interfaith Chapel, we emphasize an open and progressive theology. While respecting tradition and liturgy, we are redefining spiritual truths and values. We want to be honest and authentic in the way we relate to God and compassionate to one another. We desire to be realistic as we connect our spirituality to all realms of knowledge and understanding. We search for creative forms of worship and spiritual community. We wish to be part of the spiritual awakening where great faiths of this world are sharing their wisdom and the theme of unity with diversity progresses. We seek to be a Chapel, which honors religious history, responds to contemporary society, and envisions a spiritual future. There are many programs and goals yet to achieve. With God’s help, we are going forward in faith to fulfill the vision of the founders on the day they stood with a ceremonial shovel in hand.
We support the Charter for Compassion both in our work and in our personal lives. The Center's mission is to provide a public gathering place that strengthens community and fosters creativity through the presentation of performing arts.
Our presentations challenge our world views, help us understand other cultures, and change minds and hearts. From Broadway national tours, to individual artists, to local arts organizations, we seek to present the highest quality productions.
The performing arts allow us to see the world around us from different points of view and in turn, they allow us to experience another's perspective. When we let go, and allow ourselves to be in that other perspective, we can truly experience compassion.
Athens Religious Society of Friends (Quaker meeting) (Athens, GA, USA)
Background About Friends
For those not familiar with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), we are seekers of spiritual truth. Quakerism was founded in the mid 1600s by Christians who believed experiencing the Spirit could be achieved individually and that intervention by ordained ministers was not necessary for spiritual growth. We continue that tradition today by continuing to seek and grow spiritually as individuals. We gather as a group to share our journey with other seekers. By gathering to worship together (referred to as Meeting for Worship), we are able to share our journey with other Friends and help each other achieve a greater spiritual understanding. We hold Silent Worship, which consists of an hour of sitting together in silence, with the silence being broken whenever someone feels led to share a message. Although there is no single minister, we all minister to each other. Matters of business are guided by the Clerk, who also opens and closes the worship hour.
If you value simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and sustainability, our Meeting may be for you. We welcome people of all backgrounds, races, religions, and genders. We encourage dynamic, engaging, and heartfelt discussions around topics that help us expand our understanding of ourselves, of each other, and the world in which we live.
Meeting (church) Location
Our small Meeting of Friends (Quakers) gathers every First Day (Sunday) morning for Silent Worship at 1685 Commerce Road (Suite 1), Athens, Georgia (we share space with Casa De Amistad). Enter through the front or rear entrance of the building. Parking is available in the lot behind the building, which you access from Old Commerce Road.
We have an hour of silent worship from 10:30 - 11:30 (for more information please go to our link about Worship). Following worship we share announcements and have fellowship until 11:45. Between 11:45 and 12:30 we engage in discussions on topics that help us grow spiritually and as a community. On the first Sunday of every month we discuss Meeting Business. We also have First Day School (Sunday School) activities for children while the adults are in silent worship.
Every year, we work with more than 600 nonprofit partners—including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers—to distribute over 60 million meals to more than 755,000 people in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.
We are a member of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity.
Who We Serve
Food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters, and senior centers are among the agencies that receive product from the Food Bank. In turn, these partner agencies provide food and other critical resources for low-income Georgians who suffer from hunger and food insecurity.
How It Works
The Food Bank utilizes more than 1,700 volunteers a month, over 150 staff members, a large fleet of trucks and a 129,000 square-foot facility to procure and distribute food and grocery items received from hundreds of donors. Our donors include manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, brokers, restaurants, food drives, gardens and individuals. The product is easily accessed by our partner agencies. They place their orders online and arrange for pick up or delivery. Once the food arrives at the agency, it is provided to families and individuals in need.
It Starts With Food, but it Doesn't Stop There.
The mission of the Atlanta Community Food Bank is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. While our core work is food distribution, our efforts extend far beyond that. Our mission is lived out every day through seven projects that help engage, educate and empower both people in need and those who want to help. From supporting community gardens to assisting people in finding economic security, the Food Bank covers a wide range of opportunities for people to learn and get involved. Our seven projects are Atlanta Prosperity Campaign, Atlanta’s Table, Community Gardens, Hunger 101, Hunger Walk/Run, Kids In Need and Product Rescue Center.
Human Dignity: Personal and Societal Transformation
What we think of ourselves does matter. If we believe that our nature is less than whole, we will participate in the creation of an unhealthy environment. If we have the courage to embrace our true nature of wisdom and compassion a more healthy world will emerge. We call this basic goodness.
Welcome
We offer free meditation instruction, talks and discussion to the public every week, as well as programs in meditation, Shambhala Buddhist teachings, and other contemplative disciplines.

Earth Day Article by Aviva: "Hemp is here for us this Earth Day" (2016)
This Earth Day it would be an injustice not to mention the many ways hemp has recently been helping to turn this world's toxic sludge wastelands into air-fresh, fertile soil grounds. It is efficient even, I believe, to say that these toxic practices are our past and we will be continually quickly shifting to hemp products to sustain our planet's eco-system. (photo below by John Henry)
The Georgia Hemp Economic Revival Organization (GA H.E.R.O.) founded in May of 2013 is one of many global groups dedicated to educating the public about how the environment and economy can be greatly helped as we start farming hemp again. Hemp can make fuel. Fossil Fuels is one of the worst things for our environment. Also, the horrible plastics made from a derivative of petroleum that don't break down have disastrous effects on our delicate eco-system not to mention the harm they do to our bodies. Hemp plastics and other bio-plastics that are already on the market are biodegradable and the time is now to pressure companies to utilize all means necessary to provide us with these safer, earth-friendly products. Our other option as a consumer is to try our best not to purchase these plastics and opt for glass containers, reusable cloth grocery bags, etc. Generally grocery stores do currently provide at least one water brand in a biodegradable bio-bottle. Unfortunately, American laws restricting the cultivation of hemp along with the high taxing and stringent inter-state trade laws, still limit our capabilities to develop this greener technology.
But enough about technology, hemp has very deep roots, sometimes up to 8 feet, which has a very important role in keeping our topsoil on the earth. Several civilizations met their demise because of topsoil erosion and the inability to grow food. If you have been to the canyons in Providence, GA you get a good idea of what topsoil erosion is. Hemp is also a mop crop which remediates the soil (aka phyto-remediation). Similar to sunflowers, but exponentially more effective, hemp leeches up lead from the soil amongst many other toxins including nuclear waste. It was used by scientists in the Ukraine to pull cesium out of the soil near the Chernobyl site. This year a Japan forum and Climate emergency virtual teleconference on July 2nd plans to stress the need to remediate Fukushima's soil with Industrial Hemp. Our friends in Flint, Michigan not only can't drink their water, nothing is growing in their soil. The only thing that is stopping a plan to heal the soil with hemp is this lack of awareness and bans. The 2014 Farm Bill was a first step to allow research in states where hemp farming is legal with Sec. 7606, "The Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research". Despite this victory, there's still work to be done before all farmers can grow hemp. We can help advise Congress to pass the Industrial Hemp Farming Act (S. 134, H.R. 525), which would remove hemp from the Federal Schedule of Controlled Substances. Take Action with Vote Hemp today!
Hemp History Week is another platform for learning about the progress of the global hemp industry. This June 6-12th marks the 7th annual week of this organization's grassroots education and activism. All over the U.S. you can find events in almost every state , often multiple events (last year there were over 1600 national events) ranging from movie-screenings to panels and live-music usually accompanied by samples of hemp products like soap, bath gel, and t-shirts. GA H.E.R.O. will be presenting our 4th annual HHW event here in Atlanta, GA as we fundraise to embark on a sunflower remediation project to clean up local brown-field sites similar to Proctor creek while raising awareness of what hemp can do. We will be partnering with local environmental groups to complete this project.
From what we have learned and researched, hemp is one of the ONLY topics that gives us hope this Earth Day that we can clean up our planet and bring our eco-system back into harmony. But please do your own research and decide for yourself what the most compassionate choices and actions are for you this Earth Day.
*If you liked this article and want to support eco-music please check out some of our latest music videos in reference to this article, In Colorado In July (see below) we actually take you to the Providence Canyons, and in Cannabis Car, we sing about a car that not only runs on Cannabis fuel, but also about how hemp makes paper and building materials as well. Hemp fibers are even used to create the body of the cannabis car. We strive to make this world a better, more compassionate place by singing about relevance, truth, peace and justice, while creating beautiful music.

Awakening Compassion at Work (Menlo Park, CA, USA)
Awakening Compassion at Work is a new book by authors Monica Worline and Jane Dutton. We are researchers who have spent the past 20 years studying compassion in workplaces and other organizations. This book shares our research, as well as that of others in our field, in an accessible and practical form - with the mission of helping to inform and inspire the world's "compassion architects" -- those people who make compassion come alive in their organizations and communities.
We are living in an epidemic of disengagement and despair at work; an epidemic that is a costly drain on human and organizational potential. These widespread forms of suffering rob workplaces of humanity, dignity, and motivation. So why doesn’t alleviating suffering rise to the top of most managers’ and leaders’ concerns? As we write, organizations have undervalued compassion but it is an essential form of human skill in today’s workplace.
We draw from evidence from a variety of researchers to demonstrate that compassion confers measurable strategic advantages in businesses that compete on innovation, collaboration, service quality, adaptability, and talent. We also add to the growing body of work on compassion as an interpersonal experience by showing compassion as a distinctive form of organizational competence as well.
This book and the related materials offered by Monica and Jane offer blueprints for organizational change that highlight steps anyone can take to alleviate suffering in their workplace, including systemic substantive design principles to guide leaders and change agents toward creating lasting and sustainable compassion competence in their organizations.

"... dedicated to the promotion of peace on our planet"
Having recently retired, we were relaxing by watching a movie called "That's What I Am", written and directed by Michael Pavone. In the movie, one of the primary characters, Mr. Simon, won a contest by entering a paper on how to achieve world peace. Mr. Simon's submittal contained the following five words: HUMAN DIGNITY + COMPASSION=PEACE.
We were so impressed by the simple, yet powerful symbolic logic slogan, that we wanted to use it as part of our goal to increase the consciousness of Peace throughout the world.
Soon, we created our own symbolic logic slogans that we think could touch the hearts and minds of any human on the planet. We encourage you to send us your favorites and, if appropriate, we will add it to our "arsenal".
We would love to work with PEACE organizations worldwide to help make World Peace a reality. With everybody's help, we think it can be achieved.

Current psychological research suggests that some of the core teachings of the Buddha have the potential for effectively cultivating the values of kindness, compassion, happiness and peace of mind. As Buddhism comes to the west, it is our hope and passion to support the building of an open community of the different traditions and practices of Buddhism as a way to demonstrate the potential for humans to be open and tolerant of others who do not share their views. We can model this potential in how we interact with each other.

Bo Kwang Zen Center is a Buddhist community dedicated to cultivating compassion and wisdom through Korean Ganhwa Zen teachings.
So you should view this fleeting world – A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream, A flash of lightening in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.-Diamond Sutra
Korean Ganhwa Zen is unique in that it has retained much of the essence of the original Zen of China: Chinese Chan. It’s use of the koan or “Hwadu” is unlike that of Japanese Zen koan practice and is relatively unknown in the West.
Each and every one of us are endowed with the seeds of Buddha-Nature (“Enlightenment”). It is only because of our conditioned way of thinking, and our attachment to our own delusion that we are not able to see what we already have. Zen practice is the way to care for those seeds allowing them to sprout, grow, and flower. By having this realization of our Buddha-Nature we erode our negative habits allowing us to respond more openly in our everyday lives, which develops a sense of universal friendliness, and shows us the interdependence of all existence.
Bodhi Kids is a model for mindful compassionate education that is steeped in the teachings of the Buddhadharma. There are several overarching principles that guide us though our primary one is that these programs remain open to all people of all affiliations, religious and secular. We aim to provide this model to Buddhist centers in Western countries, along with the networking support they need, to increase compassionate outreach via family programing.
Bodhi Kids was founded by Maya van der Meer, a mother living in Upstate New York. The first “beta testing” Bodhi Kids programs have been hosted by Karma Triyana Dharmachakra monastery (KTD), the largest Tibetan monastery in North America located in the beautiful Catskill mountains. The monastery serves as the North American seat of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu lineage. After significant program development and several programs we have learned A LOT. Our May 2013 Compassion Family Day drew over 60 people! Bodhi Kids provided significant amounts of consultation to KTD’s national committee for educational outreach as well as on-location support over a 3-year period. Now, in addition to hosting four Bodhi Kids Family days a year, KTD is also developing their own programs catered to their unique status as HH Karmapa’s main North American seat. This new programming for their local sangha and their network of KTC centers worldwide is called Karmapa Kids. Bodhi Kids applauds KTD for its commitment to family programing! Additionally, we are very happy to see how well the Bodhi Kids model comes to life and we are currently supporting other centers committed to this kind of activity around the world!

Buddhism is all about training the mind, and boot camp is an ideal training method for this generation's short attention span. The chapters in this small book can be read in any order, and are short and easy to understand. Each story, inspirational quote and teaching offers mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to.
It is very possible (and perfectly okay) for people who are Catholic, Muslim or Jewish, for example, to still find the Buddha's teachings motivational.
As the Dalai Lama says, "Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.”
There is absolutely no reason to argue over which religion came "first" or whose philosophy is "better". The important thing is to be kind, understanding, peaceful and compassionate, which is actually fundamental in all religions and schools of thought.
Whether it’s Mother Teresa’s acts of charity, Gandhi’s perseverance, or your aunt Betty’s calm demeanor, it doesn't matter who inspires you, so long as you’re motivated to be better today than you were yesterday. Regardless of religion or geographical region, race, ethnicity, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, flexibility or vulnerability, if you do good, you feel good, and if you do bad, you feel bad. Amen! Hallelujah! And all that Jazz!
If you agree that Buddhism isn’t just about meditating, but also about rolling up your sleeves to actually relieve some of the suffering in the world, then become a fan on Facebook (and a follower on Twitter) to meet other like-minded-folks for beach cleanup events, feeding the homeless, caring for the elderly, community yoga, cooking classes, tutoring, or anything we can each do to help others. You’re now a soldier of peace in the army of love; welcome to Buddhist Boot Camp!
About
Timber Hawkeye, author of Buddhist Boot Camp, offers a non-sectarian approach to being at peace with the world, both within and around us. His intention is to awaken, enlighten, enrich and inspire.
To make a long story short...
I sat there in front of the Tibetan Lama, wearing my maroon robes after years of studying Buddhism and said, "With all due respect, I don't believe the Buddha ever intended for his teachings to get THIS complicated!"
My teacher looked around at all the statues of deities with multiple arms and chuckled, "The Buddha didn't do this! The Tibetan culture did; this is their way. Why don't you try Zen? I think you'd like it!"
So I bowed-out of the temple, took off my robes, and moved into a Zen monastery far from home. Zen was simpler; that much was true (the walls were blank and I loved it), but the teachings were still filled with all the dogma that sent me running from religion in the first place.
There are many incredible books out there that cover all aspects of religion, philosophy, psychology and physics, but I was looking for something less "academic", so to speak. I was looking for something inspirational that people today would not only have the attention span to read all the way through, but actually understand and also implement in their daily lives. I pictured a simple guide to being happy, and in it just two words: "Be Grateful."
Gratitude has a way of turning what we have into enough, and that is the basic idea behind Buddhist Boot Camp. The short chapters convey everything I have learned over the years in a way that is easy to understand, without you needing to know anything about Buddhism ahead of time. In-fact, the book isn't about being a Buddhist at all; it's about being a Buddha!
To all of you soldiers of peace in the army of love, welcome to Buddhist Boot Camp!

Bureau Nevejan and Mindful Compassion Amsterdam (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
Nieuw in 2016: Bevrijdend Inzicht Training

WHO WE ARE
Yasín Orgánico is an independent organization that originated in Oaxaca, in the south of Mexico, in the face of the great social and economic problems that this state, the second poorest in the republic, was going through. When it was created, it was decided to take action to help vulnerable groups of the different indigenous communities distributed in the 8 regions, who develop various economic activities of various kinds, but without receiving support of any kind. This forces them to remain in a condition of poverty and backwardness from which it is almost impossible for them to get out on their own. It is there that Yasín Orgánico intervenes with a project that allows these communities and their products to be brought closer to the large national and international markets, opening the way to the development of their local economies, and therefore, improving their quality of life.
WHAT WE DO
Consulting & Advising
We locate communities that produce or have the capacity to generate organic products in a sustainable way, but who lack the resources and knowledge to achieve it. This is where we provide advice to analyze the environment and find opportunities for them.
Development
Making use of our own knowledge and external consultants, we seek to develop the optimal product that each indigenous community can process in a sustainable way, providing added value that facilitates its commercialization.
Connect
Something important to help all these communities is to be able to link them with suitable entities and markets that help to make their development and progress a reality in a sustained way over time.

The Arts can serve as one of the most effective mediums of building bridges of respect, understanding, sharing and friendship between East and West, and between their creeds and cultures. Therefore, with the objective of seeing the Arts used to facilitate intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, CARAVAN was started in 2009 as a catalyst to encourage East and West, and their creeds and cultures, to journey together through the Arts.
CARAVAN develops artistic initiatives that bring together the cultures and creeds of the East and West. . . from holding exhibitions, festivals, seminars, forums, lectures, concerts, screenings, exchanges, artist's representation, patronage, etc.
Additionally, through the various creative programs, there is the intention to encourage the development of local contemporary art.
Within the various artistic programs, there is a charitable component that seeks to bring hope and assistance to individuals that are in need (economically, socially, physically), irrespective of creed.
Partners: CARAVAN works closely with many partners in the East and West. One of our foundational collaborative relationships is our partnership with Charter for Compassion International.
Carson is currently writing a book about trickle-up economics, which suggests how providing governmental benefits to the poor and middle class can provide more economic growth and income for all income classes. The book will tell amazing stories while tying them to higher economic concepts of trickle-up, as well as provide ways to promote these ideas. Lastly, it will end with ways to avoid biases that falsely rebuke trickle-up, including how to critically view statistics, how to read unbiased news, and how sharing your story is more powerful than an opinion.

The center is a house of hospitality that welcomes all who are in need. It is a faith based outreach of volunteers who strive to provide all guests a welcoming place to receive their basic needs with dignity. The mission of the center is to “fill in the gap” of services for our brothers and sisters in need with no government funding by providing an opportunity for people of faith to connect with and serve the marginalized of our community. Three meals a day, shower and restroom facilities, mail receipt, a telephone, clean clothing and a place to gather are all a part of the hospitality offered. Caring ears to listen and connections with social service agencies are also available. Daily prayer services are held for those who hunger spiritually.
Our Mission Providing relationship and hope for people living on the margins, particularly those who are struggling with active addiction and unrecognized or untreated mental illness − both major contributing factors to homelessness.
What We Do We are a nonprofit organization in downtown Atlanta that offers 12-step recovery meetings Monday through Friday, a 12-step bible study, a clothing closet, justice and prisoner advocacy, overnight retreats, and collaboration with many of the organizations working with the homeless population.
Our Vision To build relationships through fellowship and community, respecting the value and dignity of every person and accepting them where they are while offering them the possibility of healing and change.
Our Story The seeds for Cause for Hope were planted in 2008 when several discrete ministries for unhoused people were operating out of a storefront church in downtown Atlanta. When the church lost its space in 2011 due to inadequate funding, these programs branched out on their own: a vibrant addiction recovery program that also addresses mental health issues; an extensive clothing closet; prison and legal aid outreach. It was clear by the number of people who continued to participate in and benefit from these services that important needs in the neighborhood were being met. So in September 2013 the various programs came together under the umbrella of the non-profit, Cause for Hope.
"The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted, uncared for, and deserted by everybody. The greatest evil is the lack of love and charity, the terrible indifference toward one's neighbor who lives at the roadside, assaulted by exploitation, corruption, poverty and disease." −Mother Teresa

Creating Hope in a Challenging World from a Buddhist perspective
Charter member Michael Lisagor, the author of Romancing the Buddha, gave this inspiring talk to 90 people at the Bainbridge Island, Washington, Cedars Unitarian Universalist church on Sunday, January 24.
Dealing with depression and hopelessness has always been my biggest challenge. As a child, I was surrounded by uncertainty. We moved to a different city every few years almost like clockwork. My older sister repeatedly ran away from home and my father was always drunk and losing his job and temper. I was afraid of almost everything.
I survived this turmoil by creating obsessive structure in my daily habits and by trying to make everyone laugh -- figuring anyone who thought I was funny wouldn’t harm me. But, this emotional Band Aid was far from a permanent fix.
I spent most of my teens in the 1960s taking too many drugs and unable to function at school. I kept losing jobs, hung out with equally dysfunctional friends and thought about ending my life. At 18 years old, I hit rock bottom and was desperate to change my life.
I was lucky, through a quirk of hippy fate, to have both my wife and a spiritual practice enter my life. I'm still somewhat amazed that everything has turned out the way it has.
When I first spied Trude at a high school dance, I wasn’t thinking about mating for life. I was more fixated on her attractive cheerleader legs and bright smile. A few dates later, I fell madly in love. But, it wasn’t until we ran away together in June of 1969 on the day of her high school graduation that I appreciated how committed she was to both our happiness.
However, the uncertainties of my own life and the turbulent world around me including the Viet Nam war still practically paralyzed me with fear. Fortunately, a young man invited us to a Buddhist discussion meeting in Santa Monica while we were waiting for our 1956 Chevy’s battery to be charged. We were planning on living in the back seat!
At the meeting we learned that the deepest prayer of Shakyamuni, the original historical Buddha in ancient India, as well as Nichiren Daishonin, the Japanese founder of our SGI Buddhist practice in the 13th century, was to relieve human suffering.
In other words, to give humans hope. This is one of the main reasons I was attracted to a Buddhist practice. I was suffering and had no hope. At just eighteen and nineteen years old, Trude and I lacked vital communication skills. I struggled with depression and she struggled with me struggling with depression. Activities most people took for granted, like working an eight-hour day, were beyond my emotional grasp.
Also, I thought she was too judgmental and she was tired of me being so irresponsible. We definitely weren’t seeing the Buddha or enlightened nature in each other.
A senior in faith explained that as long as we blamed each other for our problems, we would never be happy. He also said that rather than facing each other, we should sit side by side as we chant Nam myoho renge kyo and face our enlightened selves, which are mirrored in the mandala, called a Gohonzon, Nichiren Buddhists chant to each day.
What followed has been a forty-six-year journey of chanting every day to polish our enlightened natures, overcoming numerous obstacles and consistently working to improve our relationship. The result has been an absolutely wonderful life together.
The emphasis on audible chanting as opposed to silent meditation reflects a core aspect of Nichiren's Buddhism. In addition to exploring our private inner life, our religious practice emphasizes the active practice of bringing forth our highest inner potential in relation to and for the benefit of our fellow humans and human society. Nichiren said, "The voice does the Buddha's work."
For Nichiren Buddhists, the daily of practice of chanting Nam myoho renge kyo is the engine that powers this active hope. It is how, in the words of Nichiren, “We become the master of our mind rather than let our mind master us.”
This awareness or consciousness represents our true, eternal self. The revolutionary aspect of Nichiren Buddhism is that it seeks to directly bring forth the energy of this consciousness -- the enlightened nature of a Buddha -- purifying the other, more superficial layers of our senses, our subconscious and our karma.
The word Nam roughly means to dedicate oneself. Myoho signifies the mystic or universal law. Renge symbolizes the Lotus Flower, which grows in a muddy swamp and becomes a beautiful flower. It also represents the simultaneity of cause and effect. Finally, kyo is sound -- a voiced teaching or sutra. As described by SGI president, Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhism identifies a vast cosmos deep within human life. This cosmos contains a boundless treasure or goodness, reverently called the ‘Buddha Nature.’ This radiant nature is inherent in all living things. Each inner cosmos, each of our lives, is connected to the evolving greater external universe.
Since the self and all phenomena are one, all things are interrelated. In other words, all of us exist because of our relationship with other beings and phenomena, and nothing in either the human or the nonhuman world exists in isolation. It is because of this that treating others with respect and dignity is so important.
Because of the importance of taking responsibility for our own individual karma or the causes we have made in the past, it was tempting to merely blame myself for everything that was wrong with my circumstances. But, the liberating aspect of this concept is that since I shaped my environment, I also have the power to change it for the better.
It isn't intended to make me feel guilty for all that is wrong but to make me feel empowered to improve it. For the first time, I began to truly look inside myself for the solution to my problems.
Tolstoy said, "Death is more certain than the morrow, than night following day, than winter following summer. Why is it then that we prepare for the night and for the wintertime but do not prepare for death? We must prepare for death. But there is only one way to prepare for death - and that is to live well." This quote summarizes a lot of my frustration growing up. I desperately wanted someone to tell me how to "live well." It seemed to me that everyone else had figured it out. It was a "got it" club that, for some unknown reason, I wasn't invited to join. Members of this group could take chances, travel to new places, be popular, go on sleepovers, and excel at sports. They got to live and sleep without fear.
Because there was no one around to tell me otherwise, I grew up with the mistaken impression that most human beings, including my friends and family, operated without worry. That it was only me who was screwed up.
My spiritual practice has helped me to embrace my fears. This has been a gradual process as opposed to a blinding flash of inspiration -- like peeling back one layer of onionskin at a time. I became aware of how often my mind fabricates “pretend” futures.
For instance, worrying about whether one of our daughters or grandkids was okay. Or, whether I would win new business. Or, whether Trude would have another MS relapse. We all have the ability to create extra drama in our lives.
Every single time I get up in the morning and chant, I take concrete steps to overcome the internal fears that used to paralyze me. I find tremendous hope in this.
"If we cannot feel hope, it is time to create some. We can do this by digging deeper within, searching for even a glimmer of light, for the possibility of a way to begin to break through the impasse before us." - Daisaku Ikeda
A fundamental premise of Nichiren Buddhism is that the condition of Buddhahood or enlightenment exists within each human being. This is why we don’t focus on an external statue of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni. That wasn’t his intention.
He all have the potential to be Buddhas, enlightened individuals who make a difference in the world regardless of our race, creed, sexual orientation or political persuasion. This is an ultimate source of hope for humanity.
Rather than exist in isolation by itself, this inner enlightenment manifests itself within our lives at the same time we are experiencing joy, anger, desire, tranquility, learning or the urge to help others.
Like a man suffering in prison might find the inner strength and hope to take college courses and inspire his fellow inmates. On the other hand, a successful professional living in a mansion might be racked with emotional pain and anxiety.
This realization had a tremendous impact on my attitude toward my life and the life of those around me. The act of polishing my Buddha nature everyday has enabled me to build a happy marriage, a loving family, emotional health and a rewarding career.
We were living in Virginia when my wife first got multiple sclerosis in 1996. She was paralyzed from the waist down. Our lives could have easily plunged into darkness. However, through our Buddhist practice and the support of a wonderful therapist, we began to experience tremendous joy, compassion and, ultimately, great victories including her being able to walk again. This journey back to better health began with hope and actually resulted in us being happier than ever.
Hope is akin to trust. If we could see it, there’d be no need for trust or hope. But, hope is not avoiding what is going on in the world. Instead, fostering hope involves looking directly at our reality and making the decision to improve it.
The kind of hope I am referring to is not grounded in wishful thinking. In fact, powerful hope—what’s been called ‘active hope’—may not be possible without going through despair. It is during the darkest days that we need to persevere—trusting that hope is ahead.
When confronted by cruel reality, we need to create hope. We can do this by digging deeper within, searching for even a small glimmer of light, for the possibility of a way to begin to break through the impasse before us. And our capacity for hope can actually be expanded and strengthened by these difficult circumstances. Hope begins from this challenge, this effort to strive toward an ideal, however distant it may seem.
I believe that the ultimate tragedy in life is not physical death. Rather, it is the spiritual death of losing hope, giving up on our own possibilities for growth.
The problems that face our world are daunting in their depth and complexity. Sometimes it may be hard to see where or how to begin. But let’s not be paralyzed by despair.
Instead, let’s each take action toward the goals we have set and in which we believe. Rather than passively accepting things as they are, we must embark on the challenge of creating a new reality. It is in that effort that true, undying hope is to be found.
Václav Havel, in his essay, “Orientation of the Heart,” describes hope as “a state of mind, not a state of the world.” Further, Havel says hope allows one to live with “dignity and meaning” in situations where both are in short supply, for example in his experience of Soviet suppression under seemingly impossible circumstances.
I recently turned 65 years old and found myself yet again pondering the meaning of life. A friend reminded me that age is not an excuse for giving up. Allowing ourselves to grow passive and draw back is a sign of personal defeat. There may or may not be a retirement age at work, but there is no retirement age in life.
There have been numerous times over the years that I have found myself at a crossroads. Sometimes I had to decide if I wanted to engage in an honest dialogue with a difficult colleague or to not get entangled in petty gossip and complaints about senior management. I had to choose to overcome my personal frustration or anger to move in a more positive direction.
Other times I had to accept a new responsibility that wasn't exactly the one I wanted. I had to redefine my goal to encompass the satisfaction of helping others. I haven't always succeeded, but fortunately, another Buddhist principle is that regardless of the past, we can make a new pledge each day to learn from our mistakes and contribute to a more harmonious and peaceful society. So, every morning I try to renew my own determination and to remember as Gandhi said, “Good travels at a snails pace.”
Another aspect of active hope is the importance of setting a course that benefits as many people in the world as possible. Daisaku Ikeda, the third president of the SGI, has said, "If you have wisdom alone and lack compassion, it will be a cold perverse wisdom. If you have compassion alone and lack wisdom, you cannot give happiness to others."
Lastly, just a few words about our entirely lay Buddhist organization. Over 12 million Soka Gakkai International members in 192 countries and territories develop their lives through daily chanting and by studying the teachings of Buddhism.
Members and guests share experiences of their practice and study together at monthly discussion meetings at members’ homes and gather to pray for world peace at larger monthly meetings at Buddhist Centers including over 100 in the United States. The SGI actively promotes peace, culture and education based on a belief in positive human potential and respect for the dignity of life. If you would like further information there is a flyer at the back of the hall. And, if you give me your email address, I’ll add you to my monthly Buddhist studygram.
I am so grateful to your wonderful co-ministers, Jaco and Barbara, for giving me the opportunity to share with you today. Hope is a promise that the worst thing is not the last thing. This promise, that there is always a way out of the muddy swamp of daily life, can give us the power to proceed. And is what we mean when we talk about hope as a resource deep within us that has the power to transform ourselves and the world around us.
Through a persistent daily spiritual practice, we can manifest our enlightened nature. The choice is ours. And that is why we should never lose hope! - Michael Lisagor can be reached at mike@romancingthebuddha.com

Center for Action and Contemplation (Albuqueque, NM, USA)
The Center for Action and Contemplation, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was founded in 1987 by Franciscan Father Richard Rohr, who saw the need for a training/formation center. It would serve as a place of discernment and growth for activists and those interested in social service ministries;a place to be still, and learn how to integrate a contemplative lifestyle with compassionate service. The Center's purpose would be to serve not only as a forum for peaceful, non-violent social change but also as a radical voice for renewal and encouragement. Envisioned as a faith alternative to the dominant consciousness, offering hope, inspiration and challenge to a despairing world, the CAC today attracts people from around the world—those who seek peaceful, positive alternatives and solutions to the difficult challenges of our often materialistic, irrational and violent world. These people share the CAC vision and understand the constructive message of the Gospel that crosses boundaries of religion, ethnicity, social class and gender. Many individuals seeking direction from and understanding of God's will and love have found the CAC to be a place of discovery and much more.
Center for Interfaith Cooperation (Indianapolis, IN, USA)
CIC – Hoosiers of many faiths in community.
VISION
A community that pursues peace through interfaith understanding and cooperation.
MISSION
To strengthen community in central Indiana and beyond by:
Supporting existing connections between and among faith communities;
Fostering additional interfaith opportunities through social, cultural, and educational interactions; and
Connecting interfaith communities through volunteer service and civic engagement.
“Religious communities are, without question, the largest and best organized civil institutions in the world today, claiming the allegiance of billions of believers and bridging the divides of race, class, and nationality. They are uniquely equipped to meet the challenges of our time; resolving conflicts, caring for the earth, the sick the needy, and promoting peaceful coexistence among all people.” – Religions for Peace
PURPOSE
through cooperation: abundance
Cooperation
For many people, the label “interfaith” has meant gathering people of different faiths to discuss and commemorate diverse religious practices and shared values. In Central Indiana, interfaith engagement has included interfaith prayer services and celebrations. CIC respects and supports this rich heritage of activities. But the CIC also hosts programs that explore our religious differences as well as similarities. It seeks to understand religious conflict as well as religious peacemaking. Embracing similarities and respecting differences, the CIC forms partnerships designed to solve our common social problems. Even more, we believe that the very diversity of Central Indiana’s religious communities offers an abundance of resources for confronting our collective social challenges.
Strengthening Partnerships– Five Approaches
Creative Innovation: Our location in the Indiana Interchurch Center puts CIC in daily contact with many of the city’s existing religious and interfaith organizations. New ideas for partnering initiatives bubble up from frequent informal conversations and from the formal discussions and informal gatherings that CIC sponsors in the building.
Networking Hub: CIC has established an electronic infrastructure that streamlines collaboration and partnerships between religious groups and the community. CIC’s own website provides valuable information about events and initiatives around Central Indiana. It gives potential partners easy ways to identify shared interests and opportunities for working together.
Audience Engagement: CIC technical volunteers and AmeriCorps associates help groups in the community engage a wider range of people by employing relevant practices of social media and other communication technology.
Education: The CIC takes a leading role in organizing and launching collaborative ventures, including dialogues and discussions of crucial issues facing Central Indiana and the world. This includes a) building community relationships by facilitating connections through events as simple as dinner with a family of another faith, b) connecting Indianapolis with larger communities through conferences of national and international scale, and c) organizing sustained initiatives based on Indy’s diverse community interests and religious groups.
Research & Records: CIC serves as a research institution that preserves and disseminates lessons learned through the region’s interfaith relations. This involves researching similar efforts in other communities and telling the story of interfaith cooperation in Central Indiana. This connection with outside audiences has planted the seed for future expansion of our network of educational and problem-solving partnerships.
Service
The Center for Interfaith Cooperation is dedicated to building the capacity of partnering organizations to fulfill their missions more effectively. CIC is guided by the advice of its partners in the community. It does not divert resources from existing organizations or projects. Nor does CIC attempt to force groups to take on activities or join collaborations in any way that compromises the integrity of their faith and traditions.

"The world stands on the threshold of great changes, and these changes are not associated with economics and politics, but with a spiritual awakening. The time has come for all spiritual people to join efforts and say to the world:" The era of life without spirituality is leaving and coming a new era - the era of spiritual searching, meditation, love, compassion and awakening, era of the spiritual unity of all religions, faiths, cultures and Nations, era, when science and religion can lead humanity together to a common higher purpose – divine humanity. Let´s believe: we can change ourselves and the world for the better by force of thought, to make it not just fairer, nicer and kinder, but we can make it divine. All spiritual people of the world must unite and work together. " Swami Vishnudevananda Girigi Maharaj

Centro Studi Spirituali Chsolu (Pocapaglia, Jamaica)
The blog is the first step to a new adventure!
My dream is much bigger.
I dream of a place where different people work together to create a new spirituality; a new vision. If you share my dream, help me to build 'Chsolu'.
The second step is to form an association for social promotion that is non-profit, non-partisan, non-denominational for research, study and spiritual growth.
I need help and ideas of all; you cannot do anything if we do not do it all together.
The third step is to get out of the virtuality and find a home, a place to study, meditate, take courses and conferences; a place to grow and grow together.
I wish that we could then print the search results of associates who organize meetings because it's no use building a new spirituality if not transmitted to everyone.
The fifth step would be to open a school, a real school where you teach in a different way. Where education about not only the beauty and knowledge of the world and of man, but also to grow and help form the souls and hearts.
This is my dream, maybe it makes you laugh, maybe not. If you like it let me know.
Chasing my Dreams Film Group creates films for and by the youth. Through films, we create opportunities for the youth to take part in projects and stories that call for change in social issues.

Chautaugua United Church of Christ (Chautaugua, NY, USA)
Our goal is to embody the all-encompassing love of Jesus Christ to all persons, regardless of race, gender, place of origin, religion, economic status, or sexual orientation.
Because of our love for Jesus Christ and all who Christ loves, and with gratitude for our unique location at the heart of the Chautauqua Institution, we exist to promote Christian friendship, spiritual renewal, and intellectual growth by providing affordable housing in a family environment.
In 1875, one year after the Chautauqua Institution was organized, the Chautauqua Congregational Association was gathered. In 1922, the Chautauqua Reformed Church Society was founded.
Following the formationof the United Church of Christ in 1957, these two organizations came together to form the Chautauqua United Church of Christ Society, in order to continue our mission of inclusive hospitality while bearing witness to the concern of the United Church of Christ for ecumenism and for racial and economic justice.
Our Staff and our Board Members come from various parts of the US and Canada and are dedicated to the mission of the Chautauqua United Church of Christ Society.
Please remember: Whoever you are and wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome at the United Church of Christ. We encourage you to learn more about us. On your next visit to Chautauqua, stop by to enjoy our front porch hospitality. Until then, we encourage you to read more about our programs and membership.
The Chautauqua United Church of Christ Society is a private, nonprofit corporation supported solely by membership fees, contributions, and offerings from members and friends. We are grounded in but not officially connected to our denomination, the United Church of Christ.
The Cheviot Covenant is made up of 10 tenets that all define the truest, and purest, form of Christianity. All CCC members must believe in all 10 tenets. All that officially accept it (members) are in a "Communion of Covenance" with each other.
MISSION: To unite Christian churches that accept the Cheviot Covenant.
HISTORY: The Cheviot Christian Communion was founded in July, 2014, by Johnathen Sweeney, as a way for more liberal Anglican churches to unite, and better understand one another, and better grow in Christ. Soon after it's founding, it was then decided that Non-Anglican churches could also join.

We believe that as Christians and Americans we must have and show forth Godly character and love in how we talk and how we treat others. It is also for this reason that we follow the scriptural references that forbid us from judging others based on their political beliefs or any belief that does not line up with our own and we expect the same respect from them.

Epiphany is an alive, spirit-filled community of 1,500 families who gather to celebrate God in our midst, to engage in life long formation and to serve others.
Our liturgies are enveloped in a feeling of warmth and hospitality. Epiphany’s commitment to liturgical excellence is evident in its superior music and proclamation of the Word.
Even though there is no school, Epiphany offers an outstanding Catholic education. Sunday classes and experiences provide all age levels an opportunity to grow in knowledge and spirituality.
Our unique worship space with its unfinished appearance and glass walls reminds us that our own journeys are unfinished and that the Gospel message requires us to focus outwards to participate in and impact the wider world.
Since the founding of our parish in 1971, Epiphany has been rooted in the vision of the Second Vatican Council. Each year we rededicate ourselves to our vision statement which is the cornerstone of our commitment to the world. Its text, seen below, circles the interior of our worship space as a constant reminder of our charge.
Vision statement
Epiphany's vision statement is the cornerstone of our commitment to the world. Its text circles the interior of our church as a constant reminder of our charge.
Animated by the Holy Spirit and rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, we are the Community of Epiphany on a pilgrimage of faith. In response to our baptismal call and sustained by prayer:
we choose to live the Gospel of Christ with humility and compassion,
we search for truth in a complex and changing world,
we experience the struggle and excitement of transformation through conversion,
we accept the responsibility of shared, collaborative ministry,
we embrace diversity and nurture the unique gifts of all.
Believing in a society free from oppression, we heal, reconcile and work for justice and peace. Celebrating our oneness with God and all of creation, we are Epiphany, a manifestation of God in our times.
Epiphany Commitment
Acknowledging our oneness with God and all creation, we respond to our baptismal call by proclaiming the good news that Jesus is Lord and that he is with us.
Sharing hope and joy of the resurrection event with all who thirst for the fullness of life;
Liturgical expressions that celebrate the Lord's life, death, and resurrection, and that illuminate these mysteries in our lives;
Lifelong learning experiences that foster spiritual growth at all levels of human development;
Just and creative responses to the needs of the suffering, the poor, the disheartened, and the oppressed;
Social activities that will enhance development as a community family;
Calling forth and valuing the diverse gifts of all;
Ongoing renewal that reflects the ever-changing course of a people on a common pilgrimage with all people of good will;
Shared, collaborative responsibility in fulfilling this commitment.
Women have come together in Circle in one way or another for ages, regardless of our cultural or religious influences. Gathering, tending and befriending is a part of our cellular memory and, regardless of form and against all odds, circling has remained alive and the process passed down from generation to generation.
Whether around a Well, around a sacred altar, at the park while watching our children play, or while in check-out line at the grocery store, women have connected to offer one another support, healing, activism, and insights for the greater good. One step after another we answer the call, disregarding obstacles, learning together how to make a difference and thrive.
Women are weary because we have been pressured for many years to live under and survive within the ‘Old Story’ – a predominantly ‘top-down’ ‘power-over’ model of structures and leadership that neglects and attempts t control the power of women. The value of the ‘power-with’ model innate to women has been ignored and repressed and the broken ‘top-down’ model that is still the structure found in most schools, organizations, corporations, businesses and in traditional families.
Time accelerates and challenges grow. More and more women are responding to the call for women’s gifts if we are to shift in a positive direction. Women are responding to the inner call to connect and collaborate in order to make a difference and thrive.
Rather than depend solely on experts to guide the way, women are turning to one another in Circle knowing that here will be revealed guidance, action steps and solutions. Circles invite a deep inquiry. Circle is a place of inclusion rather than competition. Women living by Circle principles trust wisdom will emerge in this safe setting and the process will lead the way. Circle honors each voice and evokes compassion not only for one another, but Mother Earth.
Circle Connections is a Circle hub focused on fostering connection and collaboration for the greater good. We welcome and encourage to become a part of the Circle Connections Community where through connection and collaboration, our potential to make a difference is expanded and our ability to thrive is made possible through loving and supportive relationships and education.
The Circles of Men Project, in association with the Charter for Compassion, launched in January 2019 for the purpose of creating and fostering a global constellation of likeminded men working together to elevate mindfulness, compassion and consciousness among men around the world.
The overarching intention is to provide a forum:
for thought leaders in men’s work to support one another navigate forward in the rapidly changing world
to enable men and boys around the world to engage in contemplative conversation both in person and virtually
to help provide a foundations for work in the area of gender equity and reconciliation
The Circles of Men Project is evolving as an extension of the Men’s Fellowship Network which launched in 2012 and has grown into a global network with visitors to the website from over 140 countries; half of whom are women seeking to learn more about the issues men face today and to offer as a resource to the men in their lives.
I would like to express my gratitude to all who have been holding space and supporting me over the past several months. It's true, the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too... And believe me, that is no metaphor. Almost every day another door opens, and needless to say, this would not be possible without your generous support.
I feel that it is important to periodically report on the impact your support and contributions are making in the world. To this end my intention is to periodically send out this newsletter capturing highlights of what is being accomplished. Rest assured, there is more going on than what is being reported here.
Our new logo with the addition of Circles of Men Project represents the expanding scope of the Men's Fellowship Network as we begin collaborating with other organizations around the world. Two strategic alliances that have been formed are with Karen Armstrong's global organization, Charter for Compassion, and with Gender Equity & Reconciliation International which focuses on deep healing between women and men. For anyone who may be concerned, our fundamental contemplative approach to Monday nights is not changing.
Men's Circles and Healing Between Women and Men - It was a privilege to be interviewed recently by Chuck Robison, Founder of What If It Really Works?. - As a unified conscious community, What If It Really Works?, creates opportunities, through interviews, articles, books and videos for understanding, wisdom, and knowledge of New Science, New Spirituality and Consciousness Studies to inform and impact the communities we serve.
Description: Does this sound familiar? How do I keep up with the exponential rate of change in the world? How do I find meaning and purpose in life? How can I possibly stay relevant? I am looking for something beyond my recovery program; something more spiritual, but I'm not about to return to organized religion. I need to talk with someone at a heart level, but can go only so deep with my spouse or partner, and I was taught not to trust other men... and I am stuck and all knotted up inside.
We will explore 12 counterintuitive, creative and non-linear approaches to finding meaning and purpose, and staying relevant in a world of lightening fast change.

The intention is to do heart-centered work and lay the foundation for later work in the area of gender equity and reconciliation.

Gender Equity & Reconciliation International- Last November I engaged in a multi-year training program to be come a certified facilitator in gender equity and reconciliation. With your support I am engaging in four intense weeks of training which will be followed by a period of apprenticeship.
The organization was founded twenty-seven years ago and is the leading program of its kind in the world with ongoing workshops being held in the Australia, Columbia, Costa Rica, India, Kenya, Nepal, South Africa and the USA.
The book, Divine Duality, is an excellent read and was written by the founder William Keepin. This book demonstrates a revolutionary type of healing work between men and women, known as gender reconciliation.
In January I had the privilege of joining Dr. Paul Hubbert, Ph.D., Multidimensional Sound Master on a transformational journey through Egypt. We traveled through upper Egypt, cruised the Nile River, meditated in the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid and climbed Mt. Sinai.... and lots more.
Paul Hubbert is the founder of the Institute for Holographic Sound and Inner Balance. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology, is certified in grief recovery, hypnosis and addictions recovery. He is a Multidimensional Sound Master, Ordained Minister, Reiki Master and Crystal Power Grids worker. He works with the Hathor energy or Hathors, Masters of sound and Love, along with the Angelic Realms to manifest health in the physical body and inner spirit. Dr. Paul blends crystal singing bowls and vocal harmonics to access the healing vibration of sound and music in its multi-dimensional, holographic form. This is known as "Holographic Sound Healing.
Circles of Menwas published this past August and within days rose into the Amazon Top 100 in its category. The book is available in paperback and on Kindle.
With this book, Clay Boykin has created a spiritual blueprint for men around the world. Not only does this book provide a detailed guide for starting and maintaining a men’s group, but it also contains rich insight into the struggles and challenges of being a spiritual male in today’s western culture. Clay’s authenticity, honesty, and vulnerability make this an endearing read for both men and women trying to understand male or masculine spirituality. Told through his experience, Clay shares a story we can all relate too. It is rich with practical and personal insight that helps break down the complexity of the human spirit. I especially enjoyed the testimonials from those who have had the opportunity sit amongst Clay and experience this counter-intuitive process. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about their own spirituality or someone wanting to start their own group. - Jeff Bullion- Spiritual Life Coach
Our gatherings are a safe and sacred space for men to connect with compassion and without fear of being judged. We do not ask for a commitment of time, rather, we invite men to set an intention to join us when they can. We all live busy lives and there is a new topic each week.

Our faith is rooted in Jesus Christ, whom we endeavor to follow in the radical way of progressive Christianity. That is, we believe the Bible is truthful but not literal, that God is a living Presence but not a dominating white man in the sky, that Jesus is a person of the Spirit and of saving wisdom but not a sacrifice to an offended God. We commit ourselves to equal and utmost respect of persons, joyful worship, theological discipline and discovery, social justice and dignity, and collegial leadership.
And we invite you to join us in this exciting spiritual pathway!

The Learning Experience
Claremont Lincoln is on the vanguard of graduate education in an era characterized by religious, cultural, and economic diversity. We are constantly working to improve our innovative degree programs and learning experiences that are already attracting students and faculty who are on a different path, cut from a different cloth. Increasingly, we are using effective online teaching models to reach more and more people with the Claremont Lincoln mission. Keep an eye... innovative things are happening in Claremont!
Location Matters
Claremont is located just outside of Los Angeles amid the rich cultural diversity of Southern California. Perched on the Pacific Rim—where the American West meets Eastern Asia, Oceana, Latin and South America—we take seriously the challenges and opportunities of globalism. This is our classroom, where we think about and experiment with new theories and practices for making the world a better place. We are also located among the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a world-renowned educational consortium that draws leaders and thinkers from around the world. In what better laboratory could you prepare for a diverse, complex future of social exploration and change?
After surviving the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary, teacher Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis was left searching for answers (that would never come). Eventually she decided to focus on questions that could be answered. There were two: How do I make sure this tragedy doesn't define us? How do we get our control back?
Those questions led her to found the non-profit organization Classes 4 Classes. By choosing to focus on the good and positive-evil could never define her students or herself. When gifts poured into their classroom they decided to help someone else and pay it 4ward.
That developed into a concept, of a website and a non-profit where every student K-8 in the US can participate. Classes 4 Classes launched on World News with Diane Sawyer on April 2, 2013. Since then they have worked with over 1,200 students in 10 states and are hoping to be in the other 40 states soon!
Classes4Classes was founded on the belief that when we teach kids empathy and tolerance there is no room for hate.
We provide a social network that connects teachers and students with other classrooms. What better way to enhance teaching and learning a true social curriculum than by connecting?
Mission
Classes 4 Classes, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to teach children the power of kindness and compassion through their ability to create positive change for others. The platform provided by our website actively engages students in learning a social curriculum through the exchange of gifts with other K-8 classrooms, which fulfill a need or educational objective. These gifts are crowd-funded by visitors and donors to our site. The gift is given to the teacher and the students in the receiving classroom only once the project goal is reached, and the receiving classroom has started their own project to “pay it 4ward” to another classroom.
Clayton Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church (Newberry, SC, USA)
Clayton Memorial is a small country church and community of friends. We gather to worship, to give voice to our liberal faith, and to serve as a church family to people in the Newberry and Lake Murray area.
The church is located amid rolling hills in the South Carolina countryside and has been established for over 100 years. Clayton started in the 1840s as a family church in the Universalist tradition. The congregation met in parlors, on front porches, and at a nearby spring. The building was constructed by two brothers in 1905 and It still sits among the fields of the original family farm.
For many years, our members received spiritual sustenance from circuit riding preachers who made their rounds on horseback.
As Unitarian Universalists, we share: • trust in the supremacy of Love, • faith that is unbounded by creed, • belief in service to others, and • the blessings of diversity, which we celebrate together.
Our Affirmation of Faith: Love is the doctrine of this church; The quest of truth is its sacrament; and service is its prayer. To dwell together in peace; To seek knowledge in freedom; To serve mankind in fellowship; To the end that all souls shall grow into harmony with the Divine Thus do we covenant with each other and with God.
--Reverend Griswald Williams Universalist Minister

Coexist Foundation (London-UK & Washington, DC, USA)
The Coexist Foundation was established in 2006 with the aim of promoting better understanding between Jews, Christians and Muslims – the Abrahamic Faiths – through education, dialogue and research. The projects and programmes which Coexist supports are aimed at helping people of these faiths improve their relations – above all with each other, but also with different faiths, and with those of no faith. Working in partnership with world-class organizations, which have demonstrated their capacity and commitment to promote better understanding among faith communities – whether through rigorous educational programmes, exhibitions and initiatives which capture the public imagination, or by promoting reconciliation between groups at odds with each other, Coexist initiates new programmes, catalyses new partnerships, and supports existing projects working towards these goals.
We are the Children of God. We, through our love, trust, faith and dedication, have become favored children of allmighty God. By living our lives wholey for him, we have gained his favor and blessing on our lives. It is his will that all of his children become favored children. It is something that anybody can do. That is what this web site is all about, that all of his children will have a loving relationship with him in a spiritual realm that is not possible through scripture alone.
We have choices in what we say and how we say it. That seems evident. What is not so clear is that we also have choices in what we listen to and how we listen. These choices appear automatic, but they are not. They are learned. We can, and do, unlearn and relearn things all the time.
The process I offer clearly outlines the choices we have in articulating our perspective based on our values and needs. Expressing our values in a dialog makes it easier for another person to listen to and understand our position. Expressing our needs makes it clear what we want and what to request. In addition, this process educates us on how to listen to another's perspective based on their values and needs making it easier for us to understand and cooperate with them.
The shared understanding that evolves from communicating in this manner makes us respectfully aware of the obstacles created by misunderstandings, momentary disagreements, ongoing disputes, or personality differences. The awareness of the obstacles we encounter, combined with clearly articulated communications based on needs and values makes it possible to resolve seemingly irresolvable conflict.
Connecting conscious companies to conscious causes.

Goal: when more and more business owners and executives see the value of dethroning themselves we will be able to ensure the just economy and peaceful global communities envisioned by the Compassion Charter.
Values: decisive action, integrity, authentic leadership, economic and societal wellness, intentionality and the demonstration of love, compassion, goodwill and charity towards all of mankind.

We are a close-knit community composed of many colors, cultures, and many ethnic groups. There are lots of babies and children growing up at CPC, many refugee families from Myanmar, a good many folk who have grown up in this church, and many more who have been a part of this community for just a few months. Rich and poor . . . gay and straight . . . yellow, black, red and white . . . Republican, Democrat and Independent . . .conservative and liberal and everywhere in between . . . this is the Columbia Presbyterian Church community.
If you are looking for a church that will answer all your questions about God, you won’t find that at CPC. But you will find a loving group of people who worship, study, pray, struggle, and think about the scriptures together to discern God’s relationship with us and our relationship with God in a very complex and sometimes mysterious world.
Driven by the forces of love, the fragments of the world seek each other ...
We are at a terrifying transition of consciousness, and this transition faces enormous resistance, primarily at the institutional level. If we believe in a society that is more humane, more empathy-driven, than the one we have now, we are on our own and easily marginalized by the powers that be. This is our challenge: to find one another and start building a humane, sustainable future!
I call myself a writer. I’m also a career journalist: reporter, editor, columnist. I started out working for the late, great Lerner Newspapers, a chain of weekly papers that covered the North Side of Chicago and part of the north and northwest suburbs. I loved that job and stayed at Lerner for a dozen years. I hadn’t expected to, but the job wound up connecting me in vital ways to a pulsating, complex community through which pretty much the whole world was passing; it pulled me out of a naïve self-importance and into my destiny, which has been: to listen to people, to hear their humanity, to find the right words to convey it.
I’ve written a weekly column for a third of my life. For ten years I turned one out at Lerner. Since 1999, I’ve written a column that has been nationally syndicated by Tribune Media Services, which is part of the Chicago Tribune. That column was initially called by the name this website still bears, Common Wonders. It started out more personal than political, then, post-9/11, as the Bush administration unleashed its war on terror, I became increasingly focused on current events. I referred to the column as “part political brawl, part secular prayer.”
I’ve won awards for my writing: from the National Newspaper Association, Suburban Newspapers of America, the Chicago Headline Club and other organizations that bestow blessings on journalists. I’ve been called a hero of democracy and, oh yeah, been wished an inoperable brain tumor. I’ve trespassed, as a journo aiming at a mainstream audience, upon the sacred consensus that America is a dumbed down, spectator nation, yet somehow special, God’s Chosen Superpower, the greatest nation on Earth. Let’s get beyond our limited allegiances, I say, and celebrate our wholeness as a species and a planet.
Our mission is uniting people to restore communities by mobilizing Christ-followers to be agents of compassion, justice, and love. We provide tutoring/mentoring programs at under-resourced schools. We partner with other organizations to engage volunteers in work with refugees, immigrants, and the homeless. We offer an annual Justice Film Series to raise awareness about injustices facing our community, our country, and our world. Community Connect Foundation: We tell stories through transmedia channels, across multiple deliver systems and media platforms. We connect Communities of Practice - formed by people who use collective learning in a shared endeavor. This type of learning practice has existed for as long as people have been learning and sharing their experiences through storytelling.
The Community of Hospitality (COH) began in 1982 as a simple-living community offering hospitality to people experiencing homelessness.
In 1988, COH opened Cafe 458 in the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood of Atlanta, directly behind the King Center. Café 458 was the world’s first sit-down, reservation-only restaurant for people experiencing homelessness. Two years later, COH expanded programming to include a relationship-centered alcohol and drug Recovery Program serving Café guests. For the past 32 years, the COH property on Edgewood Avenue has provided a dignity-affirming, relationship-centered space for people experiencing homelessness.
In the early 1990s, the COH residential house transitioned into a community of full-time volunteers who staffed the Café. The residential community was supported by a wider non-residential community that gathered weekly for interfaith meetings in the house. For over two decades, COH drew people from around the world who wanted to share life together. In 2012, the historic COH house became home to L’Arche Atlanta, a house-based community for people with and without disabilities. L’Arche continues to practice community in the house. The wider COH interfaith community continues to meet weekly.
COH is currently re-investing in the historic Café 458 building to create an innovative hub for emerging and established nonprofits working within homeless and otherwise vulnerable groups. Much of the ground floor of the building will be opened into a collaborative, low-rent space accessible to community organizations, educators, and artists.

Companions of the Compassionate Hearts of Jesus and Mary (London, United Kingdom)
This ecumenical SPIRITUAL ASSOCIATION of the COMPASSIONATE HEARTS of JESUS and MARY (CCHJM) is an on-line Religious Association, rooted in the Anglican tradition of Christianity, open to all, lay or ordained.
Its purpose is to enable members (Companions and Associates), who are seeking to nurture a compassionate heart, a variety of resources from different Traditions to help them nurture this virtue.
Companions and Associates, believing themselves loved by God, see in the heart of Jesus that compassion which reveals the nature of God. They also see compassion in the heart of Mary as they recall the prophecy of Simeon when she presented her Son in the Temple: “a sword will pierce you own heart also.” She who stood at the foot of the Cross reminds us that the way of Compassion will involve suffering.
COMPANIONS adopt a simple Rule of Life which includes spending time in silence before the Heart of Jesus, and reflecting on how they have lived out of His compassion. They also accept the value of the Sacrament of Confession in changing their hearts.
ASSOCIATES, accepting the Aims and Purpose of the Association, promise to seek ways of fostering compassion in their hearts and live out of that charism. They do not undertake to observe the Rule of the Association but they do receive Compassion Quarterly, the publication of the online Association.
Our website offers a variety of reflections, prayers, and readings on compassion, as well as pages on compassion in other faiths.
Our motto is: ERGO MISERICORDES SICUT ET PATER VESTER MISERICORS EST (Be compassionate as your Father in heaven is compassionate)

Compassionate Cornwall (Penzance, CO, United Kingdom)
November 2014 saw the launch of Compassionate Cornwall at the Eden Project and the signing of the Charter for Compassion by significant local community members and leaders (listed here:
The document they physically signed is the Charter for Compassion for Cornwall, an adaptation of the original Charter for Compassion, which also includes some conditions relevant to our local campaign. All who signed this also agreed to the entire text of the international Charter for Compassion.http://www.hopeintheheart.org/the-charter-for-compassion-for-cornwall.html.
Our original focus and aims can also be found at the link above.
After The Compassionate Cornwall Initiative was initially registered, in August last year, the huge swell of interest, mainly from Voluntary and Community organisations (NGOs) in Cornwall exceeded all expectations. Around 40 organisations registered within three months, and sufficient local leaders and significant community members were immediately willing to sign the charter for us to decide to have a signing at the launch of the initiative on 14th November (during International Compassion Week).
Although initially there was a group of people planning to share the organising of all of this, Tam Martin Fowles, of lead organisation Hope in the Heart, who had registered Cornwall, and expected developments to be relatively slow, was the one able to adjust her work schedule and devote a lot of time to its sudden, rapid progression. Therefore Compassion Cornwall did not start out with a solid steering group and action plan as might otherwise have been the case.
With the support of Charter for Compassion International organisers, Tam decided to go with the wave of interest, rather than stem its flow, and with others offering valuable help where they could, the launch and signing were joyful and successful; a true community achievement.
Following the event, Tam took a step back to explore with other partners how best to move forward to the next stage. Over several months, she had discussions with some of the larger partner organisations about the possibility of them project managing and administrating the initiative, and helping to obtain funding, but these did not bear fruit.
Eventually it was decided to form a steering group consisting of people who feel passionately about the ethos of the Charter and aims of the community initiative, even though we currently have no funding and less time than we would like to devote to this.
The group consists of six women with a variety of skills. The group formed in May, six months after our signing. We meet approximately every six weeks, and are working on our Action Plan to take Compassion Cornwall forward.
The initiative has been renamed “Compassionate Cornwall” and a new logo has been designed and approved. Compassionate Cornwall currently has web pages on the Hope in the Heart website, but it is hoped that we will be able to develop an autonomous website and social media presence in the near future.
Compassionate Cornwall has over 40 partner organisations (listed here:http://www.hopeintheheart.org/compassionate-cornwallcharter-for-compassion-international-partners.html). There has been little new movement since the launch and signing. We have decided not to try to re-engage existing partners or encourage new ones until we have a solid new presence to announce, with resources and a comprehensive action plan.
At our second Steering Group meeting, on 18th June 2015, we took on roles, as follows:
Liz Sullivan (of Whole Again Communities) West Cornwall Partners Co-ordinator:lizziewholeagain@gmail.com
Tamzin Woods (of Refugee Support) Role to be assigned
Sarah Moret-Bevan (Diversity Officer, Devon and Cornwall Police) role to be assigned.
We hope to engage other members with relevant skills, and we acknowledge the current lack of diversity within the group. We are all heterosexual women over a certain age, and would be delighted to welcome members to represent the youth, male, and other sectors of our community.
Compassionate Cornwall’s current goals are to:
Continue working on the evolution of a strong, effective and diverse steering group to take the initiative forward.
Create a comprehensive Action Plan in accordance with the Charter Toolbox.
Transfer Compassionate Cornwall’s online presence from the Hope in the Heart website to its own site and a group Facebook page for all partners of CC. Resurrect and effectively activate the Twitter account.
Create an introductory resource pack to send to partners upon receiving their registration.
Unite partners to progress most effectively in the areas in which compassionate action is most needed in our community, focusing particularly on the following aims:
Have an event at which further local leaders and relevant community members will sign the Charter.
To build a culture that firmly embraces and celebrates diversity.
To inspire and support Cornwall's young people, through education and personal development, to recognize the need to live compassionately and take action to do so.
To address loneliness and isolation, reaching out to those who feel excluded and helping them to find a valued place within our communities.

Comrades of Perístanom (Burlington, VT, USA)(Burlington, VT, USA)
Mission: to raise awareness of the religion of Perístanom.
Perístanom [pe-REE-sta-nomm] is a modern Pagan religion— https://www.peristanom.org/— a spiritual path that offers naturalistic explanations to support traditionally supernatural beliefs. It provides a rational basis for religious faith without invoking any hidden plane of existence. It endeavors to be a spirituality compatible with science, a metaphysics in accord with physics. The assertions made about physical reality may seem fantastic, yet they are nevertheless consonant with established fact.
Perístanom celebrates and reveres all of life, however humble, in all of its vital diversity. The web of life will continue to evolve into the far future, when mortals will become gods, when the creation will become the creator, when the gods will generate the cosmos itself in an eternal cycle of rebirth.
Perístanom asserts that a multitude of gods exists (polytheism), that these gods communicate with each one of us through our dreams and visions (revelation), and that they will in the distant future assume physical form (incarnation). The collective of gods — the pantheon — worshiped within Perístanom is called Deiwos [DEY-woss], a reconstructed Proto-Indo-European word and the world’s oldest identifiable word for ‘god’.
Perístanom affirms that every physical entity possesses a spiritual essence (animism), regarding consciousness as a primordial feature of all things (panpsychism). It proclaims that the final state of the universe shapes its evolution (teleology), and that the divine pervades and transcends the cosmos (panentheism).
Meaning simply ‘the religion’ in the ritual language of Modern Indo-European. Perístanom embraces all spiritual traditions of the world (interfaith), while it draws particular inspiration from three essential sources:
1. The Proto-Indo-European religion, a tradition of Pagan beliefs flourishing six millennia ago on Asia’s Pontic-Caspian steppe, and tentatively reconstructed by scholars through the shared provenance of deities, rituals, and mythic stories of the descendant cultures.
2. The analytical psychology of Carl Jung, describing a shared psychic anatomy of symbols and archetypes — a collective unconscious — common to all human beings, around the world and throughout history.
3. The Omega Point of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a metaphysical model proposing that the cosmos is guided by its creator through blind evolutionary processes to ever greater states of complexity and consciousness into the remote future, being drawn forward and ultimately joining with the divine.
By combining these three elements as never before, a unique religious faith emerges that is at once both ancient and modern, both traditional and transbiological.
Perístanom strives to be congruous with contemporary science, although not unduly limited by it. In our pursuit of spiritual knowledge, rationalism and empiricism are embraced, yet skepticism is not. Indeed, because metaphysical belief is evidently natural and healthy for the human animal, positivism and Occam’s razor are relegated solely to the laboratory. Physical reality is ultimately deterministic, however, and so superstition is repudiated as well.
In keeping with its primeval origins and progressive aspirations, Perístanom promotes democracy, equality, diversity, pluralism, interdependence, community, sustainability, and the natural and universal spirituality of humankind — as well as the simple values of life, love, truth, peace, and faith.
Perístanom adopts the obscure language of the Proto-Indo-Europeans of the prehistoric past, applies that language (wherever possible) to the key archetypal symbols of modern depth psychology, and in turn applies those symbols to the speculative physics and cosmology of the far distant future.

Connecticut Center for Social Innovation (New Haven, CT, USA)
The Connecticut Center for Social Innovation is known for its exploration of innovative financial models to improve social service delivery. We specialize in social impact bonds and pay for performance models, and are expanding the use of big data analytics in the social service sector.
America is at a critical point in its developmental trajectory. Instead of retaining our character as a land of freedom and opportunity for all our citizens, we are fast becoming a country brutally divided between rich and poor. Our middle class is vanishing, and poverty is growing at an alarming rate. We are rapidly becoming a country with a significant portion of our citizenry for whom the American dream is now an empty promise.
If the America we know and love is to survive, we need to reverse this trend. Many programs have proven their ability to improve outcomes for people and communities – yet governments and providers continually struggle to find adequate funding, to reach all the people or children who could benefit, and to support innovation and true measurement of impact and results.
New models of financing social service delivery hold great promise in applying what we know to solve social problems. But these innovations require increased knowledge and ability on the part of providers, funders and the public in order to develop and to have a real impact. We need to convene the best minds available to engage in a rapid and powerful reversal of “business as usual” in the funding and delivery of our social sector services.
This mission of the Connecticut Center for Social Innovation is to study new developments in this emerging field, and to develop funding models which will attract private capital to invest in self-sustaining social service delivery. Creating a double bottom line is a worthy investment for capital markets– and one which has gone undeveloped for far too long.
Welcome to ‘Conscience of the Society’, a registered NGO with Delhi government, India! We often hear references to ‘Conscience of Society / Country / Mankind’ but who represents it in reality? No one knows the answer! Such phrases are often used to make one’s writings and speeches effective! This is an attempt to fill the vacuum - now on, no one is alone in his innumerous plights in life - for JUSTICE and REASON. We are with you truly as the ‘CONSCIENCE OF THE SOCIETY’/Country/Mankind.
Hence we stand for the CAUSES of:
REASON, FREEDOM, *FRATERNITY and for the special cause of REINVENTING DEMOCRACY. We believe that redefining life of man is possible only by reinventing democracy.
(*Fraternity specially to mean the ‘dignity of the individual’ as clarified in the preamble of Indian constitution)
REASON more...
Promote spirit of enquiry and reason, even in governmental actions and plans, replacing arbitrary and populist decision making. Bring to the attention of government and media every act and policy that defy reason and common sense People can share such incidents with us so that we could take up the matter with government/media. Attempt to make democracy adopt Reason as its guiding spirit instead of authority and fear. A better democracy would be by the people’s wisdom and of their reason. We shall undertake research in ‘re-inventing democracy’, take up the cause with all concerned government agencies, political parties and Media, and write and publish articles on the theme.
FREEDOM
Freedom of mind is an essential ingredient for man to use his Reason. When mind is kept under crippling authority of any kind, man develops fundamentalist tendencies, a habit of waiting for orders from up. Mind gets stagnated, and the country under such tendencies can not develop in its true sense and meaning.
FRATERNITY
Though the dictionary meaning is ‘brotherhood’, Indian constitution has specifically meant it to be an assurance of individual dignity. We believe that human nature is fundamentally and naturally not ‘brutish and nasty’ as described by many writers, based on what most of our political systems were established. We believe that when one is at peace with himself, when his self esteem is adequate, he keeps only a natural curiosity to know the other person, and will not keep any animosity towards anyone. When one’s self-hood is trespassed by the other, he loses it, and then he turns a brute to do the same thing with the other too. But when he is offered the constitutionally guaranteed ‘individual dignity’ in the country governance, his personality would develop and country would gain peace and harmony. We believe that general lack of respect for individual dignity in the country is the main cause behind our mad craving for money and power- - two sure means for gaining respect in society. Deprivation will always cause craving for the deprived object.
REINVENTING DEMOCRACY more...
Democracy is said to the be last of man’s political systems. A better system is not in the list of future possibilities. If we do not maintain it healthy, intact with its originally intended principles, threat of emergence of TYRANTS can not be ruled out to the peril of mankind. Democracy, whether documented or not in any of its rule book, is the embodiment of man’s own Reason, wisdom and common sense. Its first and foremost purpose was to ensure man’s unconditional freedom and dignity that he could never taste during the old regimes of kings and foreign rulers.
Consciensly Resting Meditation (Mableton/Atlanta, GA, USA)
Consciously Resting Meditation (CRM), developed by Dr. Kofi Kondwani, psychologist and faculty member at Morehouse School of Medicine (Atlanta, Georgia), is a simple, natural mental technique practiced sitting quietly with eyes closed. Meditation’s effects have been known for thousands of years to settle the mind and body down to a state of restful alertness. The mind remains aware of its surroundings, yet settles down causing the body to initiate a relaxation response as indicated by the immediate reductions in breathing and heart rates.
CRM is easy to learn and easy to practice. CRM is a process where you do less and less until the natural tendencies of the mind and body to heal and purify do the rest. It has been shown to prevent or reduce stress and improve one’s overall health and wellbeing. The technique is taught to groups or individuals over two consecutive days with periodic follow-up.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Kondwani has been practicing, teaching, and researching the effects of meditation on mind and body, consciousness and the nervous system. Dr. Kondwani has studied with master meditation teachers from Africa, India, and the Americas, who are experts in the field of development of consciousness. Dr. Kondwani earned his Ph.D. in Psychophysiology (mind-body medicine) from Maharishi International University.

Corporate Compassion stands for entrepreneurship from the question of what your organization can contribute to the world. The economic crisis shows that one-sided focus on profit does not bring us further. Organizations owe their existence to the value they add to the lives of others. On Corporate Compassion you can find articles that can inspire you as an entrepreneur.
The Four Themes of Corporate Compassion:
Contributionism
Contributionism means giving instead of taking. Running a business that is prepared to make a valuable contribution to society, instead of just striving for wealth and property.
Business Spirituality
Business spirituality is bringing together idealism and realism, to create a meaningful organization. Ideals can come from a religion but also from an personal (spiritual) belief.
Social Sustainability
Social sustainability encompasses human rights, labor rights, and corporate governance. For Corporate Compassion it means by example: make your business accessible to wheelchairs, use experience of older workers, or work with mentally handicapped.
Work Smarter
The way work is organized changes. The common, hierarchical taylorian way of organizing is not flexible enough to face the fast changing and highly competitive global market place in which organizations operate. Corporate Compassion is always looking for new ways of working together.

Crazy Beautiful World (Dartington, England, United Kingdom)
Crazy Beautiful World is a project that connects inspiring teenagers with creative and compassionate adults to delve into the questions that are on young people’s minds.
The spark came from conversations I was having with my teenage son about the current state of the world. He and his friends had a lot of important questions that the adult world seemed to be ignoring. Together we decided to find a way to connect young people with the adults who are dedicated to their futures, to explore these questions together.
That’s how Crazy Beautiful World was born. We hope it captures your imagination,
Inez Aponte – Founder
Honest Conversation
Imagine sitting down with someone wise, funny and kind who is genuinely interested in your take on things. Surely that is how good conversation starts.
Unfortunately, too often we let ideas about who we think people are get in the way. At Crazy Beautiful World we are exploring a process called Compassionate Co-Inquiry to reach out across those barriers to create the connections we need to navigate the future.
Sharing Wisdom
Often when we think of wisdom we think of someone who has lived a long life with many experiences. But there is another form of wisdom that comes from being fresh to the world and open to seeing many different possibilities without the taint of past judgements. It is sometimes called ‘beginners mind’.
We believe we need many forms of wisdom and it’s time to listen to the wisdom of young people, as well as their concerns and hopes for the future.
Human Signposts
It’s time for adults to admit that the world young people are growing up in is kind of crazy. Of course it’s also incredibly beautiful, but with so much distraction and noise it can be hard to see it.
We need maps and guides.
We need to be brave enough to ask for directions.
We need to become each others’ signposts for the beautiful.
Creating Communities of Peace (Cleveland, OH, USA)
Creating Communities of Peace is an outreach project of St Paul's Community Church, UCC, located at W45th and Franklin in Cleveland, Ohio. We are urban conflict resolution practitioners training others to be the change they want to see in the world. Our leaders are a street-wise, counter-cultural, rainbow of compassionate activists. We are making ourselves available to others who want to work for change that cross cultural, stereotypical, socio-economic-religious-political and other man-made barriers.
Not Christian or Jew or Muslim, not Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen. Not any religion or cultural system. I am not from the East or the West, not out of the ocean or up from the ground, not natural or ethereal, not composed of elements at all. I do not exist, am not an entity in this world or the next, did not descend from Adam and Eve or any origin story. My place is placeless, a trace of the traceless. Neither body or soul, I belong to the beloved, have seen the two worlds as one and that one call to and know, first, last, out, inner, only that breath breathing human being.
As a facilitator for RESTORE, prison workshops of The Forgiveness Project (TFP), I have completed TFP’s Diploma course, in conjunction with NAOS, in Group Facilitation, Conflict Resolution & Counselling Skills. The diploma was awarded to me in January 2013.
My training also includes a background in theatre with a BA from the Naropa University, Boulder, an MFA from the University of Iowa, as well as training in bodymind awareness work and therapeutic massage. I am a founding member and artistic director of LynchPin Productions Theatre Company.
For the past 10 years I have been a member of an on-going men’s group that meets fortnightly, and have worked in men’s initiation and the sacred masculine. Recently, I stepped into the role as mentor to teenage boys through Journeyman UK.
My daily practice is a mixture of reading from a variety of inspirational and therapeutic texts, meditation, and bodymind centering work.
During my studies at the Interfaith Seminary I stepped onto the Path of Compassion, being strongly influenced by the work of Karen Armstrong and the Charter for Compassion. Because of these experiences, I have taken the title of Chaplain of Compassion which best describes my path.

The Crow Collection of Asian Art shall honor the vision, generosity of spirit and collecting tradition of Trammell and Margaret Crow. Mr. and Mrs. Crow’s love of the applied arts of Asia shall be communicated to the general public by exhibiting, preserving, collecting, interpreting and researching original works of art. The museum shall strive for maximum visitorship. Through innovative programs, the museum shall work to advance an understanding of the meanings and values embodied in the Asian artistic traditions.
In December, 1998, the Crow Family opened the Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art as a permanent museum at 2010 Flora Street in the Arts District of Dallas, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Crow opened the free museum in an effort to share their love of Asian art and culture with the general public. The museum’s mission is to bridge the cultural gap between East and West. The Crows traveled extensively throughout the world, but Asia was always a favorite destination. “Our first visit to China came in 1976 right before Chairman Mao Zedong died,” Mrs. Crow said. “Very few foreigners were allowed inside China at that time, but we received permission because of Dallas Market Center’s involvement with the Canton Trade Fair.”
“Trammell always loved Chinese art – it fascinated him, especially jade,” Mrs. Crow said. “And I’ve always appreciated English décor, which has been influenced by the Chinese for centuries. So it was very easy for us to develop this partnership — this love for Asian Art.” Tight restrictions on Chinese exports prevented the Crows from making many direct buys of art during their 14 subsequent visits to the country. The majority of their collection has been obtained from individual purchases made through private dealers and auction houses and through the acquisition of major collections, such as the highly respected Morrie A. Moss collection.
The Crow Collection Education Program
The Crow Collection is committed to offering professional development opportunities for educators working in the K-12 system, higher education, and informal learning environments. From educator events to workshops and group tours, educators can discover engaging and participatory teaching methods applicable to all subjects, while also exploring Asian art and culture. We all know there is a lot of conflict and division in the world right now. Conflict can be an important catalyst for positive change, but it can also lead to needless pain and violence when we villainize people on the “other side.”
We're on a mission to cut through the “us vs. them” mentality with events and products that help us remember our shared humanity.
By humanizing one another, we're better equipped to work together to solve our shared problems and create a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world for all.
- We believe humans have more similarities than we have differences. - We believe that what affects one of us affects all of us. - We believe there are no bad people, only hurting people who need help. - We believe we can find better solutions when we’re able to humanize each other. - We believe in defeating our shared problems, not each other.
We donate 10% of every purchase to organizations that have taught and inspired us through their work progressing peace, justice, and nonviolence.
The remainder of our proceeds are invested back into funding our own community building efforts, including our events online and in our hometown of Austin, TX.
Our commitment to a more peaceful world begins with a dedication to sustainable and ethical business practices.
We hand-pick each of our shirts from manufacturers that prioritize the environment and the people working for them. We choose socially responsible production facilities with programs that monitor and certify lawful, humane and ethical practices. Our manufacturers also prioritize energy efficient practices.
We print all our apparel locally in Austin, TX using non-toxic, water-based inks. This means that our inks don't produce any plastic wastewater in the printing and equipment cleaning process.
We ship all of our products in biodegradable and compostable packaging to even further reduce our footprint so you can get to the good stuff: creating a world with less harm.
Lastly, we are committed to constantly improving our business to be more sustainable and loving for the environment and the people we impact.
