History
ACTAsia was founded in 2006, with the purpose of helping Asian cultures evolve into caring societies, respecting all forms of life.
It is a registered non-profit organization with staff and volunteers working from offices in China and other parts of the world. Many of its staff, advisors and volunteers have extensive knowledge and experience in the field of animal welfare and humane education, and benefit from training by leading international animal advocacy organizations.
Our Vision
We envision Asian societies that are compassionate, ecologically aware, and respectful of all life, and that assist the global community in creating healthy and sustainable environments for all sentient beings.
At ACTAsia, we’re building compassionate societies through education and awareness. We promote compassion for animals, kindness towards people, and respect for the environment in China and throughout Asia.
In China, as well as many other Asian nations, there are no animal protection laws, a lack of understanding about the sentience of animals, and rapidly growing environmental concerns. We believe that education is the key to building a culture based on empathy and respect.
Our work in China includes:
Humane Education
Our “Caring for Life” Humane Education course helps children develop compassion – for each other, for animals, and for the natural world. We have trained hundreds of humane educators who are teaching thousands of children in urban and rural schools throughout China.
Consumer Education
We raise awareness about the institutionalized suffering of people and animals as well as the environmental damage caused by the fur trade. Through our “Fur Free China” awareness program, we encourage individuals and retailers to make more compassionate lifestyle choices.
Professional Education
Our veterinary training program works with professionals and grass-roots groups to promote higher animal welfare standards for companion animals. Our spay and neuter and rabies vaccination programs help reduce conflicts between people and animals.
