We promote and operate an inclusive and non discriminatory organisation where everyone is given an opportunity and the support they need. We take great care in ensuring our radio output adhers to these same principles.
Community Radio from the heart of Cornwall
Hub Media CIC (Community Interest Company) was formed in March 2011 with the intention of bringing media services to the local community whilst being accessible and affordable.
The theme running through all of the ideas discussed, was that everything Hub Media launched would be professional, positive, truly part of the wider community, accessible and above all lively.
The main focus of the company was to launch a radio station either on the internet and/or on FM. Ofcom released community licence applications later in 2011 which gave The Hub the opportunity to start off on FM.
After a lengthy application, The Hub was awarded an FM licence covering one of the largest areas of any community radio station in the UK.
Work then began to find the money, support and premises required to move the project forward.
Almost 2 years later and the premises were found, studios being built, volunteers recruited, a summer of county shows and fayres DJ'd at, and a launch event planned.
Demonstrating the tenacity and skill of the team at The Hub, the launch soon became a 2 day festival for over 2000 people.
With support from major businesses, great bands, delicious food, camping and exciting kids entertainment, The Hub Festival evolved into a brand of it's own.
The Hub is managed by two executive directors and a non executive board of talented individuals with vast experience in radio, business, marketing and community based projects.
The backbone of the company are the dozens of volunteers who give up their time to deliver a quality service and learn new skills.
Media based work experience, training and access, is limited in Cornwall...The Hub fills that gap for everyone.
Hub Media CIC is based near Tregony in Cornwall, at The Hub Radio studios. This is the centre of The Hub's transmission area and is the main focus of The Hub's work. Thanks to the internet, our reach is much wider...global in fact!
The Future
The team at The Hub are always looking at ways of providing better services to the community. Plans are underway for:
- The Hub Cinema is a community pop up cinema which will show local and mainstream films at locations around the area - pubs, halls, beaches...the possibilities are endless!
- The Hub Sound - an affordable recording studio. Local musical talent often has to travel a distance to find affordable, professional recording facilities. Providing this locally will give them that extra boost and increase their chances of success.
