My World is a unique leadership program that prepares today’s student for the complexities of tomorrow’s world. Through local and international travel, team-building, cultural excursions, and community involvement; young people develop a strong sense of who they are, cultivate an awareness and understanding of other cultures and engage in their community while learning how to collaborate, think critically, be creative and effectively communicate.
Each year we select 10-12 Atlanta area teens, 8th-11th grade from different schools, faiths and cultures. We meet twice a month, January through May for leadership workshops and local field trips. Our Spring Break trip to Washington, DC allows American and foreign-born students to experience history and learn about American citizenship first hand. Our International trip over Thanksgiving Break provides participants the opportunity to exercise their skills in a global environment. Through travel with such a diverse group, students build knowledge of themselves, meaningful relationships and appreciation of each other’s cultures.
Program graduates have increased confidence in themselves and their ability to think critically and effectively communicate while working with others. By building relationships across difference and community service, participants increase their compassion, cultural understanding and knowledge of their local
community in addition to gaining exposure to local, national and international opportunities.
