Ser Familia, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation. Ser Familia's mission is to strengthen, revitalize, and equip Latino youth, couples, parents and families through educational programs that teach improved life, leadership and communication skills, empowering participants to thrive and enjoy a healthy family environment.

We offer a variety of programs that are aimed to help Latino families develop stronger bonds with one another and have a deeper connection. 

About Us

Ser Familia, Inc was formerly known as Renovación Conyugal. The organization was founded in 2001 by Miguel and Belisa Urbina. In their home county of Puerto Rico, the Urbinas spent many years helping couples build strong relationships. Upon moving to Georgia and noticing the absence of support groups for Latino couples, the Urbinas sought the assistance of Catholic Priest Father Hernan Quevado to launch the first Latino couples program in the state. The program was opened to any couple, married or otherwise, regardless of religion.

The first “Taller de Parejas” (Couple’s Workshop) took place in Marietta, Georgia on March 31, 2001. The program was aimed towards assisting Latino couples so that they improve communication and increase commitment in their relationships. In March 2002, “Escuela Para Padres” (Parenting School) was introduced to improve the parenting skills of the couples involved with Renovación Conyugal.

In April 2005 the variety of programs expanded to include programs for Latino youths. “Renovación Juvenil” (Children Renewal) was introduced as a way to promote healthy life decisions among the Latino youth community.

In the following years, more programs and services were added to meet the needs of the Latino community. These include Support Groups for Teenagers, “Plentitud Matrimonial” (Plentiful Marriage), “Taller de Familias Reconstitudas” (Blended Families Workshop), and “Taller de Padres e Hijos” (Teens and Parents Workshop).

In addition, Renovación Conyugal also acts as a Cultural and Linguistic Proficiency Advisor for other organizations that wish to better serve the Latin community. Renovación Conyugal is always searching for fresh outlets to better serve Latin families. Keep an eye on our future ventures!
