Our Mission

  • educate, inspire, empower youth

  • foster partnerships between the genders, generations, and cultures

  • support youth in positive self-expression and social action for a just, compassionate and sustainable world

We train adults to give youth a safe space to tell the truth and practice Compassionate Listening

Imagine you had a safe space every week to share yourself without fear of judgment; a circle of peers and adults where you felt seen, heard and accepted. Now imagine you are 15 and have a space like this. How would your life be different? How would this change the world?

"TTC is a catalyst for civic empowerment and community creation. The practice of making safe spaces where young people find their voice and listen with compassion transforms not only the teens but also everyone who then encounters them."

~ Eric Liu, founder, Guiding Lights

THIS IS OUR 20th ANNIVERSARY (1993 - 2013)

The Daughters Sisters Project (broadened to Teen Talking Circles) was founded in 1993 to help young women navigate the teen years and has since expanded to include teen boys, and adults.

DSP & TTC are organically grown; founded on the principle that both a mature self-identity and healthy relationships develop naturally when we feel free to speak our truth from our hearts and hear the truth of others with our hearts.

Our model has been awarded special recognition by universities, diversion programs, community organizations, health educators, and youth-serving organizations, including the Office on Women's Health in Washington, DC. TTC received the Athena Award for Excellence in Mentoring in 2001. see our client list

Our four-day TTC Facilitator's Trainings (Learn about our Facilitator Trainings) are attended by parents, teachers, counselors, pastors, social workers, therapists, youth service providers, and anyone interested in bringing teen talking circles into their communities.

Our Facilitator's Handbook and documentary DVD assists new facilitators in learning to lead both topic-driven, process oriented, and open format circles, and includes valuable resources to augment their ability to successfully lead circles.

Talking Circles give teens an opportunity to strengthen their feelings of self-esteem, self-worth, authenticity, and resilience, and practice skills that contribute to making wise and healthy choices. Youth in TTC circles learn Compassionate Listening and non-violent communication practices to create sustainable and thriving relationships with self and others. TTC fosters a deeper understanding of the values that unite us as a human community: a critical component for creating meaningful lives, responsible citizenship, and an empowered sense of self in an interdependent world. Join us for a TTC Training, and start a teen talking circle in your community.
