DANBURY -- Months before the Dalai Lama's visit to Western Connecticut State University in October 2012, school officials vowed the university would honor his message of compassion once the Nobel Peace Prize laureate moved on.

Last summer, Western leaders did just that.

The Board of Regents, the state university system's governing body, approved creation of the Center for Compassion, Creativity and Innovation at Western. Led by Chris Kukk, professor of political science and director of the honors program at the university, the center works to guide the teaching of compassion all around the world.

Now, that same resolve is taking shape in Milford.

On Monday night, two Milford women plan to ask the Board of Aldermen to adopt a "Charter of Compassion" that aims to get its citizens to "treat everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.
