City of Westland Compassionate City Resolution

A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CHARTER FOR COMPASSION; DECLARING WESTLAND, MICHIGAN AS A PARTNER CITY IN THIS INTERNATIONAL EFFORT.

WHEREAS, Westland contains a diverse spectrum of political, religious and ethnic groups embodying the best of American values; and

WHEREAS, there are still many instances where individuals and groups fail to live compassionately and thus we acknowledge we must commit to, and broaden, this effort in all places of the community; and

WHEREAS, a growing network of individuals and groups organized around compassion are empowering our community to meet these growing needs; and

WHEREAS, early childhood education and adult modeling is key to the emotional and social wellbeing of society as a whole; and

WHEREAS, the Compassionate City Initiative is an important next step for affirming the principal of compassion and utilizing the charter as a way of stimulating community service projects; and

WHEREAS, as part of the Compassionate City Initiative there will be opportunities to connect organizations and individuals that are in need of resources and volunteers that can assist them; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate city deepens the quality and the extent to which it’s citizens embrace compassionate action in caring for its own neighbors; and

WHEREAS, we acknowledge our role and responsibility to make compassion a clear and empowering force for children, families and community to evolve as compassionate members of society; and

WHEREAS, Westland declares its desire to become a lead city in this international compassionate imitative.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the Mayor of the City of Westland and the Westland City Council affirm the Compassionate City Resolution, declare Westland a participant in the Compassionate City Initiative enabling our citizens, government and institutions to work together to embrace and apply compassionate solutions and encourage community service to meet the needs of our families friends, neighbors and communities.
