600 BCE  The Etruscan league of cities is formed in northern Italy.

597 BCE  Nebuchadnezzar captures Jerusalem.

585 BCE The "Battle of the Eclipse" which ended the inconclusive 15 year war between the Median and Lydian empires.  Calculated as occurring on the afternoon of May 25, 585 BC.

580 BCE  The Carthaginians defeat the settling Greeks at Lilybaeum, Sicily.
