Peter Leslie Wins the Dutch Compassion Award

Peter Leslie, teacher at the Orion College in Breda, Netherlands, is the winner of the 2014 Dutch Compassion Award.

The theme for the award this year was Youth & Compassion.

In his Project Mind Lab, Peter Leslie combines Mindfulness, with the asking of philosophical questions and moves students toward concrete actions (like “Be kind Breda”) when he talks with his  students about Compassion and the Golden Rule.

The Orion College was the first Dutch school that signed the Charter for Compassion in 2013.  This was an effort introduced to the school by Peter.

The Dutch Compassion Award is a yearly award for someone who has ‘softened the hearts and united people’ and is inspired by the Charter for Compassion. Since 2011, the first year of the award, given for a person in Art and Culture, there has been a theme.  In 2012 the theme was in Sports and in 2013 in Media. The winner of the award receives a small monetary award and a compassion-candle.

The winner is recognized for the compassionate actions (s)he performs in making the world a more compassionate place in which to live, and to acknowledge through his/her work the inspiration given to others.
