Defending Democracy in Schools

with Seattle MLK Jr Organizing Coalition

Date: January 11th, 12pm-1pm PST

Workshop Description

Conspiracy theories. Anti-democratic and bigoted rhetoric. Biological essentialism. Political scapegoating. Disinformation. Educators across the country are grappling with heightened ideological tensions that put their students and their school communities at risk. Join us for a conversation based on the “Confronting White Nationalism in Schools” toolkit from Western States Center. We'll explore how these dynamics evolved and unpack several strategies that empower educators and students to take back their school communities. We believe schools are hubs of democratic organizing, that's why they are being targeted. This work will advance our collective efforts for an inclusive, multi-racial democracy.
