Special Sangha

January 31: A Grounding in Peace: Inner Stillness, Outer Compassion

True peace combined with effective engagement with the world stem from a transformed inner state, not external circumstances. Find clarity in quiet, let go of ego, and allow a compassionate heart to guide your interactions, creating a virtuous cycle where inner peace fuels outer kindness, and vice versa.

February 28: Love as Justice: Compassionate Action for the Beloved Community

With Beloved Community as the goal of efforts for peace and justice, we can focus on living and loving in ways that continually move us towards its creation. Keeping our intentions on building Beloved Community reminds us to treat all life, friend and foe, with courtesy, compassion, and kindness.

In Sanskrit, the word Sangha, means inseparable. On the last Saturday of every month, the Charter for Compassion offers a 90-minute practice of people coming together to be in a Circle, a Sangha. Our Sangha is led by Orla O’Sullivan, education director at Plum Village, the retreat center started by the Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hahn.

Usually a Sangha focuses on six areas of togetherness.

  • Body. Being physically present in one place.
  • Mindfulness Trainings.
  • Sharing. Dharma discussion. Nonverbal action. Presence. (View, insight, understanding, wisdom)
  • Speech. Loving speech. Calm and gentle.
  • Material resources are shared equally.
  • Happy and joyful. Synthesis of all ideas.

Join our community of practice, 9:00 AM Pacific Time. This is a monthly event, you will register once and we will send you a reminder a day before each session so you don't miss it! These sessions are not recorded, we are building a community that can gather monthly. You are welcome to join at any time!
