Poetry as Compassion in Action
When: Wednesday, April 8 @ 3:00 PM PT
Poetry does not always arrive on a printed page. Sometimes it arrives with a guitar.
Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for “creating new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition,” Bob Dylan stands as one of the most influential poet-songwriters of our time. His lyrics have challenged war, injustice, racial inequality, complacency, and moral indifference — while also exploring faith, doubt, longing, and transformation.
In Poetry as Compassion in Action, we will explore selected Dylan songs as living poems of conscience. Together we will consider:
- How poetic language can awaken moral imagination
- The role of art in times of social upheaval
- When music becomes a vehicle for justice and compassion
- How artists help societies confront uncomfortable truths
From Blowin’ in the Wind to The Times They Are A-Changin’, Dylan’s work invites us to ask enduring questions about responsibility, courage, and belonging. His songs remind us that compassion is not passive sentiment — it is an active stance toward the world.
This session offers reflection, conversation, and musical exploration as we examine how poetry and song can move hearts, influence culture, and inspire action.
Because sometimes the answer is not shouted.
It is sung.
In a time when conversation often feels rushed, divided, or reactive, poetry invites us to slow down.
It invites us to listen. It invites us to remember that before we are positions, opinions, or affiliations — we are human beings with stories.
