Debi Strong (Bigfork, MT, USA)
As a mixed-media artist, Ms. Strong has created works with the intention of encouraging kindness, connection, compassion, and peace for our world. Most of her art includes a significant percentage of recycled materials in the form of magazine papers, re-purposed fibers, and found objects.
"An Alphabet for World Peace" poster was reproduced on high-quality paper from an original work she created after defining her idea of such an alphabet and the words she thought it should include. The words are made from letters individually cut from magazines. The red thread that winds throughout the piece is a symbol from Chinese mythology wherein an invisible red thread connects a newborn baby to all the people who will become significant in its life. As the child grows, the threads shorten in length to bring those people closer together (she discovered this story when she and her husband adopted their younger daughter, as a 10-month-old baby, from China in 1999).

Disturbing the Peace (Dobbs Ferry, NY, USA)
In a world torn by conflict—in a place where the idea of peace has been abandoned—an energy of determined optimism emerges. When someone is willing to disturb the status quo and stand for the dream of a free and secure world, who will stand with them?
DISTURBING THE PEACE is a story of the human potential unleashed when we stop participating in a story that no longer serves us and, with the power of our convictions, take action to create new possibilities. DISTURBING THE PEACE follows former enemy combatants - Israeli soldiers from elite units and Palestinian fighters, many of whom served years in prison - who have joined together to challenge the status quo and say “enough." The film reveals their transformational journeys from soldiers committed to armed battle to nonviolent peace activists, leading to the creation of Combatants for Peace. While based in the Middle East, DISTURBING THE PEACE evokes universal themes relevant to us all and inspires us to become active participants in the creation of our world.

Electronic Music Alliance (Los Angeles, CA, USA)
EMA is the country's largest not-for-profit for people in the EDM culture, leveraging the power of our dance music community for positive social change.
Our website offers our members a platform to create a dynamic community both on and offline where we can share best practices, continually inspire one another, and contribute collectively to co-create the Sound of Change.
Mission
Creating and Celebrating the positivity inherent within our culture by uniting forward thinking electronic dance music leaders, artists, and fans.
What we do
We organize around issues important to the electronic dance music community such as health, safety, greening, and giving back to our local communities.
We work to educate our people about these issues, create programs that offer fun & effective solutions, and provide opportunities to give back.
Goals
To educate and empower our dance music community by setting and implementing standards for social, ethical, and environmental responsibilities.
To advocate for and safeguard the rights of the electronic dance music culture.
History
EMA was a grassroots initiative by Janine & Ken Jordan (of The Crystal Method), and Monica Salazar as a branch of the non-profit Green Wave in late 2009. They were inspired by their work, and believed the electronic music community could and should unify to inspire the youth culture, collaborate to create innovative ideas that could make their culture more sustainable, and to leave a cultural legacy of philanthropy.
EMA started working to develop relationships with several non-profits in 2010 for their Play it FWD initiative whereby artists could donate their talent to a night of charity. Initially it was just Janine & Monica setting up The Crystal Method to play for some of their favorite non-profits such as the Sea Shepherds, Amazon Watch, and the Human Rights Campaign.
In 2011 a few other influential industry members found out about what they were up to and had interest in becoming involved so the 3 founders agreed to create a board of directors for EMA at the end of that year. In 2012, EMA spent a year convincing both friends and top industry of the importance to unite and join them.
In this year of 2013, EMA is laying the foundation for the future of the organization as we prepare to open the gates for the entire community of artists and party-festival goers to get involved be part of the Sound of Change.
The EMA logo is inspired by the 1970’s Ecology logo. EMA is PLUR in action!

Emotus Operandi (Port Moody, BC, Canada)
Everyone wants to do work that really matters - whether they say it out loud or just whisper quietly to themselves. Everyone wants to find the unique piece of the puzzle that only they can offer and to find that special place where it fits into the big picture and makes it click.
When it clicks, magic happens and you feel great - like this is what you are meant to do.
But then there are those other days... when it feels like a struggle to keep going.
Despite what some people may tell you, there is no simple formula for success. It takes discipline, support and some trial and error to find the balance between passion and push-back, between the world as it could be and the world as it is - and sometimes that feels hard.
But there are ways to maximize the time you spend in the Sweet Spot - when the pieces all come together.
Whether you are just starting and looking to build some support around your project or are looking to unleash the full potential of your existing team, we’re here to help. Emotus Operandi was created by Ben Kadel PhD. and a cross-disciplinary team of experienced professionals to effectively harness your energy to make real progress on those big goals that mean so much, but seem so hard to achieve.
We help you learn to work WITH emotions rather than against or despite them, to find a way to harness them as a positive source of energy. Then we help you:
- Remove the real barriers that keep you and your team from performing at your best.
- Build in a process that supports finding the Sweet Spot consistently.
The process works and it's actually fun. But real change depends on making consistent choices that become new habits. So, unlike others, we help you follow through to build strong habits, skills, and support structures that keep you moving forward, even when the going gets tough.

Empathy Surplus Project (Wilmington, OH, USA)
In America freedom's vision is that people, not corporations, have human rights. Caring citizens are the solution.
In America “we the people” and our representatives - not kings, presidents, preachers, CEOs, or generals - are charged with the protection and empowerment of our own and one another's life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Caring citizens are the solution.
In American our freedom ethic of excellence to make the world a better place has always been empathic: care for yourself, care for your family, care for your work, care for your community, care for your state, care for your nation, and care for your world. Caring citizens are the solution.
In America at the Empathy Surplus Project caring citizens strengthen our 1st Amendment freedoms: Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.
Freedom:
- To promote the compassionate discourse among citizens of the United States who believe empathy and responsibility for self and others belong in public government;
- To research, develop and promote the distribution of information about the benefits of compassionate public government;
- To encourage the development of caring public policy directions that promotes a measurable empathy surplus and encourages the citizens of the United States to protect and empower each other; and

Encuentro Mundial De Valores (Monterrey, Mexico)
Worldwide Meeting on Human Values
Nowadays, inhabitants of planet earth, we are experiencing a turning point in the process of human evolution and the relationship with our environment. The brightest minds of our times recognize that the courses of action we have taken are not having a positive effect on our lives and our traditional way of thinking is leading us to destroy rather than build. Thoughts and beliefs that have been handed down for generations as the believe in survival of the fittest, the strong need to compete, believing we are disconnected from nature and that the sole purpose of our planet is to serve us; thoughts centered on selfishness are keep us on the edge of disaster and are urgently needed to be changed . For all these reasons the Council for the Promotion of Human Values of the State of Nuevo Leon organizes every year the Worldwide Meeting of values that seeks to bring together world leaders to share these solutions through a space of dialogue and reflection to inspire politicians, business leaders, stakeholders and the community in general to be part of the global transformation.
This unique project has brought together all sectors of our community: government, business leaders, social and religious leaders, NGOs, teachers, schools, universities and volunteers.

Evolution Connection (Jacksonville, FL, USA)
Business values can no longer be separate from our personal values and society’s values. We know we are only hurting ourselves when we damage the world we live in. It doesn’t make sense or cents. – Joni Roberts
Evolution Connection specializes in helping entrepreneurs and organizations create companies that weave business strategy with personal and social values in ways that drive profits, gain loyal customers and inspire employees. Michael Porter, leading Harvard Business School strategist calls this the next greatest transformation in capitalism. Instead of being the cause of social, economic and environmental problems, to remain relevant, businesses must be the innovative leaders in solving these problems.
There is no more denying the fact that everything a company does has impact in the communities where it does business. In a globalized world, this reach can be extensive. As a way to divert accountability, it’s easy to put the negative outcomes in terms of “they” are causing problems, but the truth is it is “us.” Businesses are made up of people, the very people who are also customers and live in the communities where businesses have impact. The exciting news is that the drivers for change are you and me. Each of “us” can be a changemaker in the businesses we create, work for and buy from.
Evolution Connection’s founder, Joni Roberts, is a top rated MBA professor with diverse expertise in global strategy, international business, entrepreneurship, marketing, leadership and organizational behavior. She is Harvard certified in strategy, marketing, coaching, innovation and more. Her passion is helping people and organizations realize their highest potential while making a positive impact on the world. She is especially energized by the start-up or high growth phases and has helped many entrepreneurs, including herself, develop dynamic strategic plans that connect their purpose with customers’ desires.
In 1996, Joni backpacked solo around-the-world traveling to the South Pacific, Asia, East and West Africa, Egypt and Europe. Greatly inspired by her experiences and left with a desire to remain connected to the global community, she returned to school to get her MBA in international business, which led to a position as Special Assistant to US Ambassador James Rosapepe at the US Embassy in Bucharest, Romania. That was followed by starting-up and managing a software programming services company in Bucharest with clients in Western Europe. After returning to the States, she began teaching and consulting.

Extinction Witness (Bozeman, MT, USA)
Extinction Witness is a global arts project of Empowerment WORKS, Inc. that supports the human grieving process and the revival of compassionate lifeways. Our project work includes film production ( www.rightfulwork.com ), dynamic online communications, and grief support ( www.extinctionwitness.org/grief-generation ), including Generative Memorials, for personal and planetary peacekeeping.
THE GOAL:
This work is about the present moment. The attention is to the root causes of pain and suffering while practicing and facilitating the body’s natural grieving process.
We bear creative witness to and grieve today’s hunger, homelessness, sickness, and systemic violence.
In doing so, we shed the light of compassion on dark matter, alleviating at least the pain of ignorance and negligence.
This is our contribution to the many solutions that must be implemented to revive biodiversity, allay species extinction, and reverse global warming.
We believe we can accomplish these collective goals together if the focus remains on the quality of the process rather than attainment of these goals.
Thus, our primary goal is living well, “even beautifully” (author Barry Lopez), as we do our best to be of greater help than harm.
This intention is central to the Vow 2 Act. Vow signatories commit to prioritize wewhile expressing compassion with kindness and practicing the basics of self-care in the interest of common vitality.
Happiness in living is a matter of being alive with care – embodying compassion. Non-dual reality is embraced in uBuntu* – surely I am because we are.
Death is and is not real. The real loss, we grieve.
“When grief is allowed to surface, and the reasons for grief
are not denied, a healthy process unfolds that can lead
to new depths of insight and feeling, major shifts in values,
and subtler and nuanced decision-making.”
– Allen Kanner in ‘Why Extinction Matters at Least as Much as Climate Change’
Tikkun Online, December 12, 2011
BEGINNINGS:
Writer and creative director Megan Hollingsworth initiated Extinction Witness in 2012 with recognition of the naturally complicated and conflicted human emotional and spiritual response to species extinction resulting from human activity.
‘Witness’ in Extinction Witness is derived from Quaker witness practice in keeping with Megan’s Quaker roots back to Valentine Hollingsworth’s religious persecution in Ireland, 1680’s.
Extinction Witness project work has included film production, compassionate online presence, generative memorials, and a collaborative eighteen-month (February 2014 – September 2015) creative witness practice with attention to the critically endangered and extinct, including languages.
The creative witness practice revolved on a monthly basis from one group to the next and was offered in posts via MailChimp. Contributors included Megan, a few other writers and several visual artists, including Bryan Holland Chris Jordan, Denise Monaghan, Jeff Cain, and Tom Murphy. The edited and archived posts will be available via the Extinction Witness website in 2018.

Faith Presbyterian Church (Austin, TX, USA)
At Faith Presbyterian Church we are women and men of many walks of life, dedicated to an ever more inclusive and relevant Church.
We are a community that embraces inquiry. Our community of faith believes that God not only spoke in history among the communities and times of the Bible but that God is still speaking through those same stories and asking us to consider them anew using God’s gift of reason and Jesus’ model of compassion.
As one of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s 10,000 congregations nationwide, we share in the belief that the church has rightly sought reform and reconciliation over the years. We believe the church should hear the voices of those hurt by religion and a material society and seek its own further reform and reconciliation toward the likeness of Christ. Our members and pastor are actively involved in this rich tradition of over 200 years and its continuing call to relevance and renewal in our world.
In addition to our Presbyterian identity, we share a progressive outlook with others of faith inside the Presbyterian garden and beyond. We find value in the progressive values expressed in the Phoenix Affirmations, the More Light Presbyterian community and the Covenant Network of Presbyterians. We are proud to have been a leader as the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has grown toward full inclusion of all persons regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
Participation in our church is open to anyone. Those wishing to become a member of a Presbyterian church are asked to express faith in Jesus Christ. Pres
byterians also recognize trinitarian baptisms from any tradition and the communion table is open to all who trust in Christ.
It is our hope that this is a place where your spiritual orientation feels included and where you are encouraged to hear God speaking with new possibilities that may further enrich your life.

Fayetteville Religious Society of Friends (Fayetteville, AR, USA)
Founded in England in about 1650 by George Fox, the Religious Society of Friends still holds a central belief that all people are endowed with a measure of the Divine Spirit. As an “unprogrammed” meeting, our Meeting for Worship is a gathering in reverent silence for an hour, filled with the desire to draw nearer to God and one another. We do not have one person who is designated as our minister, and all attending share equally in the service as ministers to one another. Those who feel led may speak out of the silence. Those who keep silence and those who are guided to speak yield their minds and hearts to the guidance of the Spirit.

Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center (Fayetteville, AR, USA)
Partnership
The City of Fayetteville began providing financial support for the Council on Aging, Incorporated in 1972 for recreation services to senior citizens at Hillcrest Towers and the Fayetteville Senior Center.
This was the beginning of a very successful agreement with the Council on Aging.
Programs
The Council on Aging provides recreational programs, meeting the needs of our senior citizen residents at the Walker Park Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center and Hillcrest Towers.
It is the intent of the Council on Aging and the Parks and Recreation Department to work in cooperation to enhance the recreation facilities and programs in our City, while not duplicating services, in an effort to spend taxpayers’ money as effectively as possible.
If the Council on Aging were not serving the senior citizen population, the City would need to assume responsibility. Within the agreement, FBGC building is used as an emergency shelter for the City of Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Underground (Fayetteville, AR, USA)
The mission of the Fayetteville Underground is to promote the visual arts in Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas, support area artists working to high standards, and contribute to the advancement of Fayetteville as a destination city for the arts.
After a soft opening in August 2012, Fayetteville Underground artists and board members celebrated the organization’s return to the Fayetteville Square and move into new gallery and studio spaces in September 2012.
Founded in 2009, the original Fayetteville Underground leased the basement of One East Center — the site of many large opening receptions, great exhibitions, hard work, and camaraderie. The group lost the lease in December 2011. Soon after, several artists started meeting once a week to plan the return of the Underground and communicated their efforts to former Underground artists. Today, the group of about 25 regional artists includes several veterans as well as new members.
The reorganization efforts received a huge boost in May 2012 when the city’s Advertising and Promotion Commission awarded the organization a $55,000 grant to help with the move into a new space at 101 W. Mountain on the corner of Mountain and Block, maintaining a spot on the Downtown Fayetteville Square. The artists spent over two months renovating a section of the former Woolworth’s department store and Washington Hotel.
While the non-profit retained its name, it is no longer located underground; galleries and studios are at street level. Each month new art is made and displayed, while featured shows from new visiting artists change. The building currently features five galleries and seven studios of diverse working artists. Art is for sale, and artists welcome visitors into their working studios.
In addition to monthly art shows featuring artist members and visiting artists, the Underground believes in working with other local arts organizations to plan events such as concerts, readings, and performances. The gallery welcomes increased multidisciplinary arts collaborations to utilize the space most effectively and to enliven the visual art created and displayed by artists.
Fayetteville Underground board: Ralph Nesson (president), William Symes (vice president), Hank Kaminsky (treasurer), Sabine Schmidt (secretary); Bo Buelow, Dayton Castleman, Sharon Killian, Gregory Moore, and Lisa Jo Outlaw.

Fayetteville, Arkansas is the county seat of Washington County, located in the Ozark mountains of Northwest Arkansas. Home to the University of Arkansas and approximately 73,580 residents, Fayetteville appears to be a healthy, thriving community. To wit:
“Fayetteville continues to be recognized by national business magazines and quality of life publications for its extremely healthy economy. Northwest Arkansas is bustling, with three of Arkansas’ top five employers—Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods and J.B. Hunt—headquartered less than a half-hour drive from Fayetteville. The result of this economic picture is business success and top-notch living conditions for the town’s current estimated population of 73,580.” Source: Fayetteville Visitors’ Bureau.

•Best Small Cities for Startups, 2009 – Business Week;
•Best Large Farmer’s Market in the nation, 2012 – America’s Farmland Trust.

•The average income of Washington county residents is $32,309, compared to a national average income of $39,937 (source: Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce);

Feeding Children Everywhere (Longwood, FL, USA)
Together, We Are Feeding Children Everywhere.
Feeding Children Everywhere is a social charity that empowers and mobilizes people to assemble healthy meals for hungry children. We have a commitment to those we serve – to provide the healthiest meal possible for children and families around the world.
We believe one person can make a difference but only with action– action that brings people together. Together, we are mobilized. Together, we are empowered. Together, we are providing healthy meals to hungry children and families around the world and right here at home.
How We Began:
Founders, Don and Kristen Campbell, shared this love with hundreds of children in their community giving those in need a place at the table. Witnessing the impact a shared meal can make, the Campbell family was inspired to multiply that empowerment with the world.
Feeding Children Everywhere was founded with a mission to empower and mobilize people to assemble healthy meals for hungry children. With the help of their devoted family, dedicated friends and driven volunteers, the movement began.
Today, thousands of volunteers, from a six-year-old Boy Scout to a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, come together at Hunger Projects with the same purpose that started it all– to share love, hope, and make a difference around the world.

Fellowship of Reconciliation (Nyack, NY, USA)
The Fellowship of Reconciliation is composed of people who recognize the essential unity of all creation and have joined together to explore the power of love and truth for resolving human conflict. While it has always been vigorous in its opposition to war, FOR has insisted equally that this effort must be based on a commitment to the achieving of a just and peaceful world community, with full dignity and freedom for every human being.
In working out these objectives, FOR seeks the company of people of faith who will respond to conflict nonviolently, seeking reconciliation through compassionate action. FOR encourages the integration of faith into the lives of individual members. At the same time it is a special role of FOR to extend the boundaries of community and affirm its diversity of religious traditions as it seeks the resolution of conflict by the united efforts of people of many faiths.
In the development of its program, FOR depends upon persons who seek to apply these principles to every area of life. FOR members:
- Identify with those of every nation, race, gender, sexual orientation and religion who are the victims of injustice and exploitation, and seek to develop resources of active nonviolence to transform such circumstances;
- Refuse to participate in any war or to sanction military preparations; work to abolish war and promote good will among races, nations and classes;
- Strive to build a social order that will utilize the resources of human ingenuity and wisdom for the benefit of all, an order in which no individual or group will be exploited or oppressed for the profit or pleasure of others;
- Advocate fair and compassionate methods of dealing with offenders against society; they also serve as advocates for victims of crime and their families who suffer loss and emotional anguish, recognizing that restitution and reconciliation can help to heal both victims and offenders;
- Endeavor to show respect for personality and reverence for all creation;
- Seek to avoid bitterness and contention in dealing with controversy, and to maintain the spirit of self-giving love while engaged in the effort to achieve these purposes.

First Congregational United Church of Christ (Hendersonville, NC, USA)
What We Believe
The First Congregational Church is a member of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ. The Southern Conference is divided into three Associations - Western North Carolina, Eastern North Carolina and Eastern Virginia. It consists of approximately 300 congregations. Since the policy of the United Church of Christ provides for the autonomy of the local congregation we are bound together in a covenantal relationship. Covenant literally means, "coming together." Therefore, our communion is through our faith in God as expressed in Jesus Christ our Lord. Through God's love for us in Christ we are called to practice that compassion. It is the glue that holds us together.
The congregation of our church believes that God is still Speaking to us. We welcome everyone to join us in our worship and fellowship regardless of where they are in life's journey. As a result we are participating in the God is Still Speaking initiative sponsored by the United Church of Christ. This is why we have adopted the slogan attributed to Grace Allen, which says "Never place a period where God has placed a comma".
Who We Are
We are a community of faith, gathered together from a variety of denominational backgrounds, and bound by a covenantal relationship that grows with the love of God and each other. We declare and affirm that all we are, and all we have, are gifts from God, and that we shall strive to be faithful stewards of those gifts.
Our hearts are open to the diversity of God's children, and we celebrate our life together through ministries of prayer and worship, music and education, stewardship and outreach, and witness to the joy of an open and affirming Christian life.
Our Mission
The First Congregational United Church of Christ of Hendersonville welcomes and respects all people and viewpoints, and strives to follow the teachings and actions of Jesus. We nourish and support our members' spiritual journeys and joyfully minister to their needs. We work for justice in our community and the world by living compassion, protecting creation, and reaching out to our neighbors with love.

FoodTourz (Haifa, Israel)
HEY THERE!
We are social-entrepreneurs (cultural-ambassadors-by-choice..) from around the globe who wish to experience and explore life in the most simple and authentic way - by sharing info & food.
And this is (in a nut shell) why we love food tours.
What is a food tour? A common food tour is a walking-tasting-menu ("menu dégustation” walk) of about 2-4 hours, with 3-10 recommended stops/ must-try dishes/ restaurants/ markets/ bakeries etc., all hosted by a local foodie who is a great story-teller and host.
Why are we passionate about food tours? Because we wish to discover interesting cultures, to experience local food with all our senses, meet inspiring people and feel how life is on their side of our planet.
And as we see it, traveling is not only through other countries, but can be through our own hometown. In our home turf, we can discover subcultures, visit underground city secrets, and get a taste for the lives of others around us through their plates and stories.
We believe in creating a delicious and sustainable touristic alternative. Together we can create a community based on collaboration that will help the local culinary scene thrive while providing an amazing global experience for travelers.
We appreciate feedback, so please don't hesitate and drop us a line to let us know what you think!
If we haven't featured tours at your next travel destination or in your hometown, let us know, and we'll scope out the best local food tour for you.
If you have food tours that you'd like to recommend, we would love to know about them!
...and you are always welcomed to make our day by dropping us a message and showing your love and support!
Footage Foundation (New York, NY, USA)
Footage Foundation is a dynamic non-profit using novel multi-media tools to amplify the voices of youth as a means of igniting change within themselves and their communities.
At Footage, we think that social change will only come about when all young people’s insights and lives are valued, that every young person’s story matters, and that every young person has the ability to bring about change. Through the use of local technology, multimedia methods and tools (including digital storytelling, image, text, and other expressive media), we support young people so that their experiences are communicated, their voices are amplified, and their solutions are acted upon to inspire sustainable transformation. We also partner with amazing organizations, helping them harness and capture the stories and experiences of the young people with whom they work. Be in touch to learn more. “Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” -Daili Lama
A BELIEF SYSTEM FROM BEYOND THE BOX
How does an author persuade total strangers through a few words that they should read his/her book(s)? First a brief summary would be helpful. This author’s brief summary of either book is: Be spiritual – do compassion.
Next – the book should meet an average reader’s needs as they face life every day. The words in these books help me meet my needs as an average person and I hope they help others do the same. A book should present new perspectives worthy of consideration. e.g. Holmes Rolston III states that “God is an atmosphere of possibilities luring human history up slope.” In “A Belief System Beyond the Box” we think beyond the box containing the God of the Bible Verse into the God of the Universe – the Atmosphere of Possibilities luring human history upslope.
THE LEAP TO EVERYDAY SPIRITUALITY IN THE ETERNAL ATMOSPHERE OF POSSIBILITIES
This book is a candid invitation to readers to explore their beliefs, not a request to agree with the author. As each of these books contemplates spirituality the conclusion is that religions too often claim to control and dispense spirituality. Actually religions exist only because spirituality is already present in every human as a bit of the metaphysical energy/force (God) that gives value and purpose to the all of existence and life. Spirituality becomes functional when transformed into compassion.

Foundation for a Mindful Society (Washington, DC, USA)
Mindful is an initiative that celebrates being mindful in all aspects of daily living—through Mindful magazine, mindful.org, and social media. For those who want to be mindful and those who are interested in various forms of mindfulness practice, we offer a broad range of personal stories, news-you-can-use, advice, and insights.
What is being mindful?
Being mindful is an idea—actually a way of being—whose time has come.
Mindfulness is the innate ability we have to be present, composed, and to pause before we overreact to the challenges of our busy lives.
It takes many shapes and goes by many names. Some call it being in the zone or presence or flow or situational awareness. It can develop into a way of living that bring kindness and caring into everything we do.
We all have the capacity to be present, it doesn’t require us to change who we are, and we can also cultivate these qualities with simple practices that are scientifically demonstrated to benefit ourselves and others.
What do we do?
In addition to our digital and print publishing activities, together with our partners, we also work to foster the growth and the development of the mindfulness movement through community-building activities, including conferences, salons, meetings, and more.
Find out how mindfulness is likely to become a transformative social phenomenon. Read the manifesto.
We also give voice to an emerging community of people who are making mindfulness a way of life and who are excited about the positive effects that mindfulness is having on the world today—in business, relationships, health, parenting, science, education and so many other areas of life.
We see the emergence of a quiet revolution—a historic opportunity for social change—and Mindful is here to support the heroic efforts of those who are working hard to bring benefit to others, through mindfulness, awareness, kindness, and compassion.
Mindful is published by the Foundation for a Mindful Society—an independent not for profit corporation supported by generous funders and a board of movement leaders who act as our advisors.

Mountain of Silence is a Buddhist meditation practice group, inspired by the Soto Zen tradition, but open to the study and practice of other Buddhist Dharma traditions. We propose an open and inclusive lay practice that does not depend on traditional forms and rituals, but that welcomes these as convenient forms for training and practice.
In our practice settings the zazen posture (sitting meditation) is suggested, and all people who wish to accompany us are encouraged to seek to discover its profound value by means of their own regular and continuous experience. We also study the Dharma teachings, which have been preserved and transmitted from the time of the Buddha and the ancestors, to our days. This is an illuminating and inspiring practice that can help any human being who feels the sincere desire to abandon a life of suffering, and to aim for a mindful, responsible, free and more satisfying life.
We feel inspired by and receive support from other Buddhist communities, including the SAN FRANCISCO ZEN CENTER, and the INSIGHT MEDITATION CENTER in Redwood City, California. The former was founded by the teacher Shunryu Suzuki Roshi over half a century ago; the latter by the teacher Gil Fronsdal, who is grounded in both the soto Zen and Theravada Buddhist traditions. We have begun what we hope will be an ongoing and fruitful exchange of teachings and experiences between our institutions.
Our small community (sangha) is led collectively by a group of long-standing practitioners, some with several decades of meditation practice and the study of Buddhist teachings.
As an independent group of lay Dharma practitioners we are legally established as a non-profit foundation (Tax identification No. 811.038.667-9). We follow the Buddhist approach of sharing the Dharma based on generosity. For this reason, all our activities are freely offered. Our functioning and sustainability are made possible thanks to the economic support and the volunteer work of the practitioners.
