The Sandalwood Food Pantry offers so much more than just food. Something very special happens to a person when they first come to Sandalwood. There is a profound sense of family; a love for one another which transcends the petty differences of everyday life. This love is deeply rooted and unconditional. When people come to Sandalwood, they have a tendency to stay. We invite you to please come down to the Sandalwood Community Food Pantry and experience this unique fellowship for yourself. Our doors are always open and we would love to make a new friend.
We look forward to seeing you.
The Sandalwood Food Pantry is a a 501 (c) (3) volunteer-based, organization, 1 of 196 local faith-based and nonprofit quality agencies working in partnership with The Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston, SC. We are committed to reducing hunger on Hilton Head Island by providing an efficient, cost effective centralized system for collecting and distributing nutritional food to the homeless, the unemployed, the working poor, the mentally challenged, the physically challenged, the senior citizens and most important of all – the children.
The Sandalwood Community Food Pantry had its grand opening on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. The Pantry’s humble beginnings were located in the Sandalwood apartment complex in apartment 121, open during the hours of 12 to 1 p.m., every Tuesday and Friday. Residents of Sandalwood, Hilton Head Gardens, The Oaks, and surrounding neighborhoods in need arrived not only to receive but to give their assistance. On that day we served just five families, but now, through the tireless efforts of our friends and volunteers, we serve over 550 families (approximately 1000 people) per month.
Our Mission
Go to the people. Live among them. Learn from them. Love them. Start with what they know. Build on what they have, and when their task is accomplished, their work done, the people will remark, we have done it ourselves.
