About Us
HSHV was founded in 1896. We are the only animal shelter in Washtenaw County that takes in all types of unwanted, injured, lost, stray, abandoned, and abused animals. Each year we help over 12,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals.
We are governed by a board of directors and are supported by generous individual and corporate donors.
Our Mission
HSHV's mission is to support the loving, responsible care of all animals in our community by:
- Ensuring proper, nurturing care for the animals in our shelter
- Placing all adoptable animals in loving homes
- Reducing pet over-population
- Caring for the physical well-being of animals in our community
- Providing education and outreach to the community
- Stopping animal cruelty
