Sanga Aguas da Compaixao - Jisui Zendo
The Soto Zen Buddhist practice group, “Sanga Águas da Compaixão – Jisui Zendô” began its activities in May 2007 in Porto Alegre, RS (southern Brazil) under the leadership of Isshin Havens, Sensei (Monja Isshin) and was formally registered as a non-profit religious organization in 2011. Several groups in other Brazilian cites are affiliated to the main group.
The name “Águas da Compaixão” (Waters of Compassion) is a reference to a mantra that invokes the “turning of the wheel of the water of compassion”, which is recited during the reading of “Kanromon” (Gate of Sweet Nectar) during its Soto Zen cerimonies of “feeding the hungry ghosts”. Many imagens of Kannon, symbol of compassion, show her holding a vase containing the water, or nectar, of compassion which she pours over all of us.
