The Centre based in Gaborone, is managed by a full time coordinator. The Centre also accommodates the library, comprising of a large collection of Islamic books, which is being continuously revised and updated. We have an assorted collection of DVDs on religious talks, debates and Islamic documentaries. These are screened on TV daily for viewing by those who visit the centre. The coordinator is also responsible for conducting organised tours of the mosque by schools and organisations. In addition to a tour of the facility, visitors are given a brief introduction to faith and culture of Muslims, followed by Q & A session, with the express intent of offering our guests the opportunity to hear the authentic message of Islam.
Presentation on Islam in the University of Botswana and various local schools. We work with professors, teachers, students, and organizations to deliver lectures, followed by Q & A sessions. Education about Islam and Muslims is the main focus of these activities.
The Gaborone Da’wah Committee participates at the Annual Trade Fair held each year in the month of August. This event gives us the opportunity to showcase Islam in Botswana and provides opportunity to dispel the myths and clear many misconceptions about Islam and Muslims, on a one-to-one basis. Many persons have embraced Islam at the Da’wah stall, whilst a number of others have reverted to Islam, having visited the Centre and were convinced about the True Message.
Ads & articles in Botswana newspapers stimulate tremendous response from readers around the country, who request materials by phone or mail, or schedule visits to our centre for tours, attending classes, and getting to know Islam at grassroots level.
We have a dedicated team of volunteers who coordinate the prison Da’wah program. They visit the Gaborone Prison regularly, imparting Islamic knowledge and also host Ramadan Iftari for Muslim prisoners. Our main audience is the City of Gaborone and immediate neighbours. We are blessed to receive many out of town guests, as well as many visitors from smaller communities where Islamic Centres are not fully established. In order to coordinate the propagation activities countrywide, we have established links with a number of regional centres in other towns and major villages. Islamic material is sent to these centres regularly and propagation carried out by qualified personnel.
The Gaborone Da’wah Committee, in conjunction with other organisations in Botswana, conduct lectures and seminars by inviting scholars of international repute. These experts help facilitate consistent delivery of the message of Islam.
Informal discussions every Sunday between 0900 hours and 1230 hours with Sheikh Hassan (and other knowledgeable brothers and sisters:). These sessions are for all levels. A great time to learn, share, ask questions. These sessions will focus on strengthening the fundamentals of Islam for these newly reverted Muslims.
Upon request, the Gaborone Dawah Committee provides Free Qu’rans, including English translations, Islamic books, CDs and brochures through its various regional centres.
