Veda9

Veda is derived from an old Sanskrit word which means knowledge. It is the philosophy of the band, Veda9, to promote knowledge to people of all ages.
Veda9 was formed in 2007 by a group of local artists with a specific mission of promoting a holistic lifestyle through their brand of spiritual music. The group believes in going back to basics by using acoustic musical instruments to express various music genres.
Idrus, the leader of the group, put together a team of young and experienced musicians from diverse musical disciplines to create a sound that fuses the spirit of the East with Western melodies – resulting in an original blend of world music.
The group first played to a full audience at The Arts House in August 2008. They were subsequently invited to perform at the World Music Festival in Gyeongnam, Korea in July 2009. There, their music was well-received by both the locals and international audience. But more importantly, the experience gave invaluable exposure and confidence to the younger team members.
Veda9 full-fledged concert was held at The Republic Cultural Centre (Republic Polytechnic) on 19th December 2009. In March, a more intimate performance entitled ‘Divine Intervention’ was held at The Arts House’s Play Den. In November 2011, Veda9 made a special appearance in a recital by an English artist. Juliet Howland’s ‘A Promise Of Return’ that was held at Esplanade Recital Studio.
Their debut album Existence was launched in April 2012 with a concert at Esplanade Recital Studio.
