Quaker House Plymouth

quakerhouse

Quaker House provides an affordable hired venue space for community and business activities as well as being the home and place of worship of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Plymouth. The vision for the modern accessible meeting house is to provide a sustainable building offering a welcoming space for people to meet (classes, events, training) and or worship.

The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) meet for worship at Quaker House every Sunday between 11am – 12 midday. The meeting is based on silent waiting on the Spirit, which may result in spoken contributions. Plymouth Quakers have met in this way since 1654. All are welcome.

Plymouth Quakers have been located on Mutley Plain since the 1920’s when they founded the Swarthmore Adult Education Centre. In 2003 it was decided to build the Quaker House on the site of a former electrical shop next door. This was then refurbished in 2012 to improve disability access.
