Interdependency in Action: Why Compassion Must Be a Networked Movement

A mycelium network growing with the words: Interdependency in Action: Why Compassion Must Be a Networked Movement on top.

In a world as intricately connected as ours, the truth of our interdependency has never been clearer—or more urgent. The climate crisis, global conflict, rising inequality, and the mental health epidemic are not isolated challenges. They are shared struggles that demand collective solutions. At the Charter for Compassion, we believe that compassion is more than a feeling—it is a powerful connective force that reminds us: we belong to each other.

This is why we do what we do. As a global network of individuals, communities, and institutions committed to building a compassionate world, the Charter for Compassion thrives at the intersection of values and action, local needs and global partnerships, personal transformation and societal systems change. Our strength lies in connection.

We invite you to experience this interconnectedness for yourself at our upcoming Compassion in Action Conference, happening May 14–15. During these two days, you’ll see our network come alive—educators, changemakers, youth leaders, business innovators, faith-based actors, and grassroots organizers from all over the world, sharing, learning, and building something greater than the sum of our parts.

Experience Networking as a Force for Transformation

This year’s conference will feature two powerful sessions that embody the spirit of compassion as collective impact:

David Gershon: Business as a Force for Good

Can business truly be a vehicle for global transformation? David Gershon—visionary leader behind the Peace Game and Peace on Earth Zones—says yes.

In his featured session, Business as a Force for Good, David will show how companies can evolve from Corporate Social Responsibility (minimizing harm) to Corporate Social Engagement (maximizing good). This isn’t just theory—it’s a proven second-order change strategy that empowers employees, strengthens communities, and aligns profit with purpose.

You’ll learn:

  • The five social impact benefits this approach offers businesses—and their bottom line.
  • What it truly means to be a good business, and the new standard of social good.
  • How the Business as a Force for Good Social Impact Alliance supports companies ready to lead change.

The session will be followed by a compelling conversation between David and Charter Executive Director Marilyn Turkovich, exploring how compassionate systems and empowered networks can move us toward a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world.

Ryder Delaloye: SEE Learning and the Science of Compassion

Another key session will feature Ryder Delaloye, Associate Director of Emory University’s groundbreaking SEE Learning® (Social, Emotional, and Ethical Learning) program. Rooted in neuroscience and compassion research, SEE Learning provides children and adolescents—from age 3 to 19—with the tools to develop empathy, resilience, ethical discernment, and emotional intelligence.

SEE Learning goes beyond traditional social-emotional learning by placing compassion at the heart of the curriculum. Already taught in classrooms around the world, SEE Learning is transforming the culture of education by fostering individuals and communities capable of deep care and ethical action.

The Charter for Compassion is proud to be partnering with SEE Learning to expand our global reach and impact in education. Together, we are helping to build the next generation of leaders who understand the power—and necessity—of interdependence.
