Parliament of the World's Religions

Parliament of the World's Religions

The Parliament of the World’s Religions is the world’s oldest and most inclusive global interfaith convening, dedicated to fostering interreligious dialogue, ethical action, and cooperation for peace, justice, and sustainability. Since its founding in 1893, the Parliament has brought together people of diverse religious, spiritual, and ethical traditions to address the critical challenges facing humanity and the Earth.

The Parliament’s mission is to cultivate harmony among the world’s religious and spiritual communities and to promote their engagement with the wider world in service of the common good. Its vision is a just, peaceful, and sustainable world in which diversity is honored, shared values are uplifted, and collaboration across difference becomes a source of strength rather than division.

This mission is deeply aligned with the work of the Charter for Compassion, which calls for compassion as a foundational ethical principle across religions, cultures, and ideologies. Both the Parliament and the Charter affirm that compassion is a universal value—present in all traditions—and essential to overcoming fear, exclusion, and violence.

Within the framework of Charter 2.0, this alignment is further strengthened. Charter 2.0 emphasizes capacity-building, partnership, and the translation of shared values into sustained action. The Parliament embodies this approach by:

  • Creating spaces for deep listening and dialogue across difference
  • Supporting collaborative responses to global issues such as climate change, inequality, and violence
  • Elevating ethical leadership rooted in spiritual wisdom and lived experience
  • Encouraging communities to move from dialogue to collective compassionate action

The Charter for Compassion’s ongoing engagement with the Parliament reflects a shared commitment to building bridges across faiths and worldviews, while grounding collaboration in practical initiatives that improve lives and strengthen communities.

Within the Compassion Transformation Institute, the Parliament of the World’s Religions stands as a vital partner in advancing interfaith cooperation and moral imagination, demonstrating how compassion—when embraced across traditions—can serve as a powerful force for unity, healing, and global transformation.
